Fixed Netflix oddities on an older TCL TV
Update January 2026: Took a star off because this is the most touchy remote ever. If I look at the remote cross-eyed, it'll switch to a different streaming service. Did find a lot of comments on this here, but there are some outside of Amazon. I'm looking for a nice, but inexpensive universal remote. Netflix always seems to have a couple shows we want to watch. So, instead of periodically unsubscribing and re-subscribing, it’s always present. Also, T-Mobile pays most of the bill as a perk. But it was tough to watch on our 7+ year old TCL TV. We bought the TV for ease of use and reliability, but worth every passing month, Netflix became less and less stable. Hitting pause was a crap shoot; sometimes it would pause, sometimes it wouldn’t. Then in-pausing brought more uncertainty. Sometimes it would start again, sometimes it wouldn’t, and sometimes your TV would reboot itself. Then I remembered that on the rare occasion I watched something from Netflix on a different device, I had no issues. I also had no issues with other streaming services. It was a Netflix only thing that was only on the TCL TV. From what I read on the subject, Netflix and Roku don’t play nicely with one another. I was ready to replace the TV, but decided to spend $25- to test a theory. So I bought the Fire Stick. The results were better than expected. Netflix works perfect now and I swear the TV’s resolution has improved slightly. I wasn’t going to buy the fanciest TV, so this didn’t save thousands of dollars, but it saved me a few hundred. I prefer the simplicity of the Roku UI, but the Fire Stick’s UI isn’t difficult to navigate. I wish I’d bought this a long while ago.

Made My TV Young Again
This made my 7 year old Sharp Roku TV young agaim. The picture was still as good as ever but the interface was very slow on start up, changing apps and loading programs. Whether the interface has gotten slow over time or was just slow by modern standards, not sure. Also buffering was happening a lot. I was considering replacing the TV because it was so annoyingly slow. Saw a Black Friday ad for the Fire TV Stick and it occurred to me this might solve the problem. Certainly worth a try for the price. The TV instantly got better. The initial set up was easy. The learning curve was nominal as it is very similar in screen appearance to the Google system. Streaming quality remained the same. All the apps I use were available. The remote is comfortable and the voice control is smooth. I now have Roku, Google, LG and Amazon Fire TV operating systems. The Fire TV may be the best. For the price, it is clearly the best.

Great Fire Stick, Easy to Just Plug In!!
So easy to install...just plug in the HDMI port on back of tv!! The remote is easy just take a little time to realize how much you have on the Fire Stick!! So many movies, tv shows, games, YouTube, and you can purchase Netflix, Hulu, Disney, etc. Love this!! Tripled what I had before. I didn't have cable and only had YouTube and a few other channels! Use on your Smart tv!! Oh, you can hook it up to work with Alexa!! Just tell Alexa to find YouTube or turn on the tv or pickup where you left off! Highly recommend!!!
