How to use the egg timer and egg piercer1. Hold the egg piercer in one hand and the egg in the other. Place the wider end of the egg over the egg piercer's needle and press. 2. Put the egg timer in the pot or saucepan with the eggs, in one layer, as shown in one of the pictures. 3. Watch the colors change when the water boils. Bring the water to a simmer. For soft-boiled eggs, remove the eggs when the soft stage (yellow) turns white, or sooner, depending on the preferred egg softness. Similarly for medium (orange area) and hard boiled eggs. Check one of the pictures for a visual representation of the process. 4. When the eggs reach the desired level, safely take out the egg timer and let it cool at room temperature while you cool down the eggs in cold water to prevent further passive cooking.Hot start methodLower the eggs in boiling water.
