NOT GLUTEN FREE
I am so disappointed. This item is clearly labeled gluten free. I have celiac disease and have a hard time finding gluten free steel cut oats. I ordered this and have been eating it daily. I have not been feeling well and couldn’t figure out why. I just noticed on the back of the package it states that these oats are processed in a facility that also processes wheat. THEREFORE, it is not technically gluten free and safe for someone with celiac. I’m very confused as to how this is ok.

Quality Control Needed in the Warehouse
I ordered 4 bags of oats 3 times on subscribe and save. The first time I received 4 bags of popcorn from Grest River Milling. The second time I got 4 bags of black turtle beans. The third time I again got 4 bags of turtle beans. Amazon said keep all of these items and replaced one order with oats. On #2 and 3 I just got a refund. The popcorn and beans are tasty, and now I’m buying rolled oats from Whole Foods. I may try amazon again, but I’m not going anywhere near Great River Milling.

Corn?
I ordered these rolled oats as a replacement to the Bobs Red Mill oats I have always used but they stopped selling. I was excited to try these oats since I already purchase the wheat flour from Great River Milling and love it. Much to my surprise, I open the box to find oversized bags of whole corn. It is past the window to return it because I ordered the oats to stock the pantry and hadn't opened the box yet. Now I'm stuck with huge bags of corn when I already have a pantry full of corn. I'm giving 3 stars because I like the company but was super disappointed:(

Not thick, mostly fragments and dust.
After buying Bob's Red Mill for many years, these thick oats looked like a bargain. They certainly weren't thick like Bob's, but the real problem was that they were mostly fragments, not whole flakes.

It's OK but not spectacular
I buy old fashioned rolled oats for the texture, I like them to have some chew to them and hold up to microwave cooking. While this brand was quite economical, it was not what I was used to buying. I usually get the store generic brand at Aldi or one of the chain stores in my area, they are rolled flat grains but much thicker than these. This brand is rolled but closer to quick oats in texture, quite thin and just about disappear into the mass when cooked. The thick cut ones were out of stock when I ordered, maybe I will give them a try next time. I'm also getting some hull bits that got missed, I guess it comes with extra fiber.Update: Of the four bags in the box I ordered, three have had bad seals on the back seam and broken open. I was trying to save one by pouring it into a half gallon mason jar and the seam split even further, spilling it all over the counter. The tops are heat sealed tightly but the long seam down the backs of the bags, not so much. I'm very careful with dry goods, especially in the summer, so this extra aggravation is not worth the low purchase price.

Will Buy These Oats Again.
Tastes very good and the texture is great. I was buying bulk thick cut oats at the local markets but now they only carry quick oats. Hard to describe the actual difference in flavor of the Great River oats compared to what i was buying before, the bulk was ok, these oats are better. I literally measure out a heaping quarter cup into a deep bowl, add water, and microwave it. I don’t add any sweeteners or milks, occasionally a half a banana, so the taste is important to me :)

Better texture than Quaker old fashioned
I have purchased Quaker old fashioned oats for a while , opting for generic as found. Cub Foods had a good knock off. This is as good or better than Quaker and organic and supports a smaller company. Give it a try. I eat it every morning . Put in a corning small casserole... fill wioth enough water to cover the top , microwave on high for two minutes. Cool a bit then top with two heeeeeeping tablespoons of good yogurt . some sliced fruit. YUM! Great River Milling Old Fashioned Regular Rolled Oats, 32 Ounce (Pack of 4)

Are these organic or not?
I really like these oats. They are thick and maintain a nice texture when cooked. I only gave them two stars though because there seems to be some deception in the way they are packaged and marketed. The description online uses the word "organic," the name of the company sometimes has "organic" and sometimes doesn't depending on where you are seeing it, but nowhere on the package does it say that the oats are organic. There is some intentionally vague language on the package that indicates that this company does offer organic products, but these oats are apparently not one of those products. The oats are good, but I probably won't order them again due to what seems like some dishonesty in the way the company presents them.
