Surprisingly Simple and Reliable: A Great Pool Thermometer That Just Works
After some recent frustration with Amazon tech products, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to set up the Govee pool thermometer. The process began with installing the Govee app and plugging in the Wi-Fi gateway. With just a quick button press, the app detected and paired with the gateway seamlessly. The temperature sensor itself requires two AA batteries (included), and while unscrewing the cover was a bit difficult, it's clearly designed that way to maintain waterproofing.Although the pairing instructions were provided, I didn’t need them—once I added a thermometer in the app, it paired automatically. I dropped the sensor into the pool and secured it to our steps using the included lanyard. Within a couple of minutes, the app displayed the correct water temperature, matching the sensor's screen which has nice big digits making it easy to read without lifting it from the water. The range is excellent. In my setup, the gateway is in the garage—about 75 feet from the floating sensor—and the connection remains strong. I also appreciate the app’s ability to store historical data and display graphs, which is great for tracking temperature trends. I discovered our electric air-source heat pump starts warming the pool around 15 minutes after sunrise, so now I can save money by turning it off overnight and restarting it in the morning.Despite some reviews to the contrary, I was able to connect the thermometer to our Alexa system without issue. Now, I can ask, "What's the pool temperature?" and get an accurate answer within five seconds. I did notice that Alexa can take up to ten minutes to reflect recent temperature changes, which might explain the trouble others have mentioned. One thing to note for software developers is that this sensor is not supported by the public API that Govee has, this is particularly annoying as Amazon and Google have access to the sensor, but not the rest of us. I've confirmed that this is the case with Govee support.Overall, this is a well-built device that offers excellent value for money. It’s one of the rare tech products that has actually become more affordable over time. I'm hoping it holds up well and that the batteries last; if not, I’ll update my review.

Simple Setup And So Many Ways To Get Your Pool Temperature!
Setup could hardly be easier for this pool/spa thermometer especially with so many useful ways to have the temperature reported. You can see your pool temperature in the window atop the thermometer while standing at the edge of your pool but even better, you can check the temperature from your phone using the Govee app. But wait, there's more. You can easily add a widget to your phone/tablet screen (same way you add all widgets) that just sits there updating pool temperature so there's no need to start the app. Here's the kicker. You can also easily add your voice assistant to the mix by using the Govee skill (Amazon Alexa). Now you can simply ask "Alexa, what's the pool temperature?" (assuming you names your device 'pool' and get an instant answer. You will want to use the calibration utility in the app to fine tune your new thermometer. Use a known accurate thermometer or report from your pool's temperature readout for the number. Also, consider tossing a desiccant pack inside the thermometer before sealing it up to absorb any moisture before the electronics can be harmed.

Very easy to get setup and usable
I want to be able to know the water temperature of my pool so that I can decide if I need to turn on the water heater or not. So this remote thermometer is perfect for my needs. The setup was easy and straightforward. I downloaded the app, plugged in the gateway, the gateway was recognized by the app, and then I installed the two triple A batteries under the thermometer top. I pressed once on the black button under the thermometer top so that the temperature information would transfer to the app. The only confusing part was making sure the lanyard aligned with the scale mark. It was not clear how to make the two align. So I started screwing once both were aligned, then once it was tight, I just kept tightening until they lined up again.

Works well, extremely short battery life (updated - fixed)
Connection was easy, temp accurate. Problem I'm having is, the initial batteries lasted a month or so. Put in new batteries, they were dead in a week. Maybe bad a battery? Another set of a different brand, 5 days. Tried again, cleaning the battery contacts, just in case, and re-seating the connector. Nope, 7 days. And this with "Long Battery Life Mode" turned on. Seems like this short battery life is an issue with many, but not all of these sensors. So, I'm back to Ambient Weather, not quite as convenient or accurate, and can't check the temp with my phone, but the batteries last 6-9 months.5/16/24 update: Customer support contacted me, they figured out some water intrusion had caused an issue with the unit, which was causing the extreme battery drain. Attaching the picture I sent them, if your unit has this kind of corrosion, it may not work as it should. They're sending me a replacement, even though I've had the unit for over 6 months! Huge kudos for above and beyond customer service.I'm going to put some Teflon tape on the threads of the replacement, to assure it remains water-tight. I'm upping my review rating, since the units function is excellent, just have to make sure the unit remains watertight.

Works well
Updated Review: After leaving my original review, the seller contacted me to see what they could do to make it right. This shows that they stand behind their product. As a result, I am updating this to 5 stars.Original Review: I like that I can graph the temperature over time. I have it on the battery saving mode and have not replaced batteries yet since I bought it 4 months ago. No water problem inside yet either. But usually after a couple years these do, so we will see. My gripe with this is that they do not have integration with Home Assistant. Would be good to see the pool temperature in my dashboard and create automations. They have not been responsive to reaching out about this feature either, hence why only 3 stars.
