Drop in Replacement for Traditional Ball Batch
I do not know why the product listing shows installing by drilling into the side of the door and wall. It's clear that the designer went to great lengths to produce a product that could replace the ball catch mechanism that installs on the top of the door. I have several interior doors that had ball catch mechanisms and they were not good. Some were too tight. Some were too loose. One became so loose that it stopped catching at all. They were all so noisy and we stopped fully closing the doors and just rested them where the ball meets the edge of the top plate. This product fixed all that. It fit in to the original holes, including the screw holes...no drilling required. It took me a while to figure out that this item was the one I needed. There are several versions of magnetic ball catch hardware on Amazon with slightly different sizes. So measure your existing hardware first. If it matches, you are golden. The magnets are both strong and not strong. Before installation when I manually moved the magnets close, they snapped together with a solid force. But if I close a door with too much force it can escape the magnetic force and bounce back out. There was a little bit of adjustment to learn how to work with the magnetic catches and now it's working very well. There was one other issue. Without the ball physically catching into the depression, the door would hit the back wood before the magnet would catch it and center it. That was quite noisy. To resolve that, I put a bit of weather stripping on the door frame to absorb the impact. All in all, I'm quite happy with this upgrade.

Brilliant
I've used hidden magnetic catches before and always had to drill. This is a 1-1 replacement for a standard ball catch that just screws into the same space. Easy to install; quiet operation; adjustable strength closure. What's not to love?

Works well after adjusting
These are working fine for some french doors we have. The magnets hold the doors fine after I messed around with the installation a bit. Seems much better than the old ball and catch thing we had that drove my wife crazy and never seemed to work right. I'm hoping these continue working well... don't see why anything should change as nothing really moves with it. One big tip - there are 2 ways to adjust how much it sticks out. You can adjust the magnet inside the brass colored cylinder (using a flat head screwdriver), and you can adjust the cylinder inside the black installation plate by turning or screwing it in. It doesn't come with any instructions, and at first, these weren't holding the door at all for me, but it was because I was only adjusting the cylinder in the black plate - the magnet inside was slightly recessed and wasn't touching the frame plate. After adjusting the magnet to stick out with a screwdriver - (the first one I did was very hard to turn but after taking it apart and figuring out how it worked, I was able to get it how I wanted it - the 2nd one turned easily) the magnet started making contact with the frame plate and held the door. These are definitely not silent for me - you can hear in the video. The magnet moves around a little bit in the cylinder and clicks when it connects to the frame plate. And as someone else commented, this means it does scratch the black frame plate. But no biggie for me - the old thing we had was all scratched up too, and was also much noisier - this thing sort of has a satisfying click to it. If you had a light door or cabinet, you might be able to use tape or felt to silence/protect it. But for it to hold the doors for me, the magnet had to make contact with the frame plate and then that friction was what held the door. One slight annoyance- I couldn't adjust the height of the magnet once it's installed. You have to take it back apart to adjust. So it was a little trial and error a few times for me to get it right.

Tonitrui Silent Ball Catch Experience
I received the Tonitrui Silent Ball Catch and began by taking a full inventory to confirm that all components were included—everything was present and accounted for. I removed the old ball-catch system and performed a fit check with the new Tonitrui parts. During this process, I noticed that the strike plate provided is slightly smaller than the existing one which does allow the old cutout to be visible requiring painting or caulking. This however was not a major issue, but installing the magnet plate did require modifying the door to allow it to sit flush. It’s worth noting that this door alteration requires a certain level of skill, as you’ll need a chisel, hammer, or a comparable tool to properly recess the plate. Once installed, the magnets must be fine-tuned so they align correctly with the top plate. After completing the installation and adjustments, I found that one of the magnets works exactly as intended—it catches cleanly and holds the door firmly. However, the second magnet does not grip with the same strength, almost as if it’s underpowered. I adjusted the alignment to create minimal clearance, nearly to the point of dragging, but it still does not hold as effectively as the first door. Overall, while the system installs cleanly with some additional effort, the inconsistency in magnet strength may affect performance depending on the door. I am giving the system 3-stars because the system is not a drop-in replacement and the magnet strength inconsistency.

Some clarifications and corrections to the other reviews
There is a video for a review claiming these are too loud and not very strong- The not strong enough is the key. These work great in many, not all situations. Perfect for a closet door, but will not work where there is a window that will create air pressure or in any other circumstance when an air current can open the door. While they are completely silent when properly installed in a door not subject to air currents they can be adjusted high to the point where they will click into each other, and this will increase the holding power somewhat, but it will not be silent. The other comment common in these reviews is discussing the fact that you can increase the power by using a flat head screwdriver to raise the magnet higher in the barrel, this is only true where the magnet was left too low in fabrication. If you can see the magnet assembly sticking up out of the housing increasing it’s height won’t change anything. The attached image shows the magnet above the housing, if yours looks like that it’s good.

Truly quiet
Decent set, strong magnets. I like this over other products because the strike plate and the door column both have magnets. Other products require the column to snap onto the strike plate, so they are more noisy. I'm waiting on a replacement because my initial order had the magnets glued in backward. They were all glued with the same polar orientation (e.g. north on column meets north on plate). I received the replacement and they are perfect. In my case very little carpentry was needed as they fit perfectly where my ball and spring sets were. To truly flush the strike plate on the door frame, I had to route about a millimeter in the frame so the magnet and screw holes could sink into the frame.

Not quite what I expected but they work pretty well.
These are not "silent" but they're quieter than the ball catches they replaced. As so many people said in reviews, the magnet does click into place with the stationary plate... but it's a pleasant and very quick click. When I saw the complaints about the magnet scratching the plate I decided to add some paint protection film that I had laying around the garage to each plate. No scratches on the metal plate and it kind of brought down the volume of the "click" when the magnet hits the plate. It's not a huge reduction in noise though. The great part is that you set it and forget it. It seemed like with ball catches that I had to adjust them depending on the humidity level of the house. These magnets are sort of self adjusting because the magnet can still work with smaller and larger air gaps. I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

THESE ARE WORKING 100% WITHOUT CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT
This was a great replacement for the spring-loaded ball catches that wore out. It's not silent. Changing the old ball catches out was easy. The new catches fit perfectly.

Easy to Install and Works Perfectly
The Tonitrui Silent Ball Catch is a great little piece of hardware. It feels solid, the magnet is surprisingly strong, and once fitted, the door closes with a smooth, satisfying click. No rattling, no slamming, just a clean, quiet hold. Installation was straightforward — as long as you’ve got basic DIY skills, it’s a quick job. Everything lined up nicely, and the adjustable design makes it easy to get the perfect fit. If you want a reliable, silent door catch that does exactly what it promises, this one is spot on.

Simple to install.
Used to replace an old spring / roller type catch. Fitted pretty well in place of the old fitting. Easy to adjust but since it's magnetic and simply slides out it doesn't provide a strong closure 'force'. This was not a problem in my application. Recommended.
