Formula 1 in Camera 1960-69: Volume 1

If you are reading this review - you will probably love this book (which by the way is quite large) I was born in 1954 - the drivers of the 60s were my heroes - but many magazines had mostly black and white pictures with just a few colour ones. This book contains a good selection of colour pictures of F1 cars from each year. It includes the famous drivers but also some of the less well known drivers / cars. The picture captions point out some of the more relaxed attitudes of the 1960s (spectator access to pits etc) and lack of safety precautions - some of which now seem just reckless. If you are not interested in this period this book will not interest you (so if your partner is into current F1, you will be taking a big risk buying this as a gift). Good value at the price via Amazon - this could be a future collectors item.

This is a really good book. If you want in-depth facts and figures, this book will not provide that as it was not supposed to. The photos are good, but not as varied as the later books, but that may be down to camera technology. It was good to see how the F1 cars changed between 1960-1969, and I liked some of the shots of the engines and mechanical hardware. Honda's car with its octopus-like exhuast (McLaren F1 call their current exhaust the octopus) showing outside the back of their car is impressive. I have the bookes covering the later years, and the 1950-59 on preorder. I recommend this and the other books, and hope to see an `F1 in Camera 1990-1999' book.

Bought as a gift for my formula 1 mad father at Christmas, along with other books from the series. He loves all of them; lots of interesting photos, statistics and notes. Particularly good that the books include minor drivers and teams, as well as those that are more well known.

It's a photo book about Formula 1 included in a collection of 5 books. I've read many other books about formula 1 issued in italy but I think I'll buy the entire collection because it's very complete and full of details.

This is just one from a great series of books on motor sport in years past (the exception being the BTCC). Good use of images and informative extended captions mean it is easy to browse and you will learn something each time. Background details from a clearly knowledgeable and enthusiastic author bring the machines, personalities and period to life.

Super, schnell und billig.

liked it a lot. Although it is a bit peculiar. The book itself is a compendium of photographs, with comments, of these, at the foot of the page, (in English) on each page there are one or two photographs, almost all in black and white, (there are no more than three or four photos per GP, including non-scoring) in order, chronologically of the GP, and separated by seasons. I bought the one of the two volumes (incredibly they are identical in approach and format). I don't know exactly how the single volume version will be, but in essence I don't think it varies a lot, I don't know if the single volume version contains fewer photographs Me ha gustado mucho. aunque es un poco peculiar. El libro en sí, es un compendio de fotografías, con comentarios, de estas, a pie de página, (en inglés) en cada página hay una o dos fotografías, casi todas en blanco y negro,( no hay más de tres o cuatro fotos por GP. Incluidos los no puntuables) en orden, cronológicamente de los GP, y separado por temporadas. Yo compre la de los dos volúmenes(increíblemente son idénticos en planteamiento y formato). No sé exactamente, cómo será la versión de un solo volumen, pero en lo esencial no creo, que varía mucho, desconozco si la de un solo volumen contiene menos fotografías

If you really liked the F-1 cars during what I personally call, the beauty years. This book has fantastic photographs, it chronicles not only the cars but the drivers. This was a huge growing spurt for F-1. The cars far surpassed the circuits they raced on. Light weight, powerful and very fast. I didn't know Porsche had produced a F-1 car, but they did. I'm more familar with their road racers, but I guess they were the end result of Auto Unions rear engined cars. By 1962, every manufacturer had built rear engined cars. And Ferrari didn't dominate, many of the F-1 greats that paid with their lives to go fast for the distance. I highly recomend this book for your F-1 racing history collection.
