![Joanna Lumley's Nile [DVD][2010]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51-bbIrKFGL.jpg)

Actress and campaigner, Joanna Lumley embarks on the trip of a lifetime; to follow the River Nile, the longest river in the world, from sea to source. Heading upstream, in the direction of the earliest explorers, Joanna travels by boat, train, ferry, car, plane, mule and camel along Africa’s ‘life line’. On a four thousand mile journey, passing through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda, Joanna revisits the romantic history of the Nile and talks with the people working and living on the river today. On a journey resonant with legend and myth, Joanna’s companions and adventures breathe new life into the story of an ancient river. She meets ferryboat captains, crocodile hunters, whirling dervishes and beauty queens and finds herself undertaking a wood smoke beauty treatment, running with Olympic hopefuls, getting up close to a baby rhino calf playing with its mother and hacking through the jungle to reach the newly-discovered source of the great river. As she travels past pyramids and ancient temples, through deserts, jungle and war torn landscapes, Joanna’s charm, enthusiasm and graceful fortitude carries us along a fascinating and epic journey. Review: Incredible series - I loved every minute of this programme. What compelling viewing! I never knew the source of the Nile was in Rwanda, and how long and how fascinating her journey was going to be. Joanna has a lovely calm voice that guides you the through the beautiful scenery and she knows her subject well. I am going to buy all the other series she has made. She is a very good presenter and I'm surprised and disappointed that she hasn't been added to the list of presenters like Portillo and Palin who are continually praised and recognised as such. Review: English re assessment of africa - The CD is very good. It educates, informs, entertains and inspires. BUT,old habits die hard and slowly. Joanna Lumley brings her quintessential English view of Africa but with a new interest in Africans and some entirely new understanding of the modern post colonial world. The new approach recognises our shared humanity and seems, in most part, to begin to cast aside the old patronising and superior attitudes that the English have had of Africans. It will take time for a more respectful view to emerge but more documentaries like this will go a long way to speed the transition. Joanna's comments comparing the nomadic Nubian family's lifestyle to the English Suburbian lifestyle illustrates my point. To me it seemed as if Joanna accepted the best hospitality that the nubian family could offer her and then turned around to the camera and mocked their lifestyle, safe in the knowledge that there is no way they would ever understand the sub text of what she was saying about them In this documentary Africans had more positive roles to play not just being victims. This CD will reach a lot of people because it is presented Joanna Lumley. BUT overall it is a very good value for money.

Joanna Lumley's - Nile
A wonderfully informative DVD of the cradle of civilization beautifully portrayed in a very Girlie manner to areas I have visited myself and much tied up with my interests. Such a wonderful production that has tempted me to purchase the other DVDs of her other travels such as 'India' and 'The Silk Route' as seen by me during my World Travels.

Joanna Lumley's NILE DVD
I watched to the first two parts in the uk on the bbc, and as I was going to miss the last two parts I decieded to buy the DVD from Amozon to take back to Australia. This DVD is absolutly fabulous, I just love Joanna and how she puts things across, my husband and I laughed with her all the way through and I so related to Joanna as I myself also an army brat of the same age. Everyone should watch this if you are interested in this part of the world. its great. Thank you Joanna, looking forward to your next big trip. Carol jones.

the best of the series
I love travel documentaries - will happily watch them over and over. The Nile is the best of all the ITV series filmed with Joanna Lumley. I found the other series had a lot of 'filler' material which was either not that interesting or not something a travelor would be interested in doing if visiting that country.

Oh the pleasure!
Oh the pleasure of traveling with the charming Joanna Lumley on this long journey! Joanna undertakes this journey with her usual enthusiasm, grace and spirit, and the result is superb. In anyone else's hands this journey would be an incredible experience (even to the armchair traveler) but with this classy lady as our host it is beyond incredible. I especially appreciate her genuine respect for the local people she encounters, and the ease with which she interacts with them. This admirable trait of hers comes through in all three of the Lumley travel DVDs I own. It's pure joy to watch them multiple times! I hope she continues to make travel documentaries for a long time to come.

A perfect replacement for the original Grass hinges installed by our cabinet contractor in 1985 but seemingly no longer available. Blum face frame is actually more robust and easier to adjust. Identical cup size and set back. Minor difference in cup screw placement which any competent home handicap can deal with.

I was lucky several years ago to take cruise on part of the Nile. Joanna Lumley's DVD is well put together & excellently filmed and Joanna is an excellent narrator. The the DVD brought back lots of wonderful memories.

I loved watching this video. My wife and I have been to Egypt twice but never to the rest of the NIle countries. The other counties were fascinating but I do not believe I would want to take the same boat rides that she did. We have been to five countries in the south of Africa so we have experienced many of the cultural aspects of these countries. We found her narrative fascinating and very enjoyable. It is very enlightening! I highly recommend this video!!!!
