Subterra Backpack 21L, Dark Slate

This backpack is very solid and more “stiff” than others I’ve had but in a durable, quality way. It protects my laptop very well and holds everything I need for trips to the office or plane trips. I only put my electronics and associated work items in it as it’s a bit small for packing clothing etc.

Got the 27L in black. Looks very sleek and professional. The bag is very sturdy due to the padding in the front panel of the back and the padding around the zippers to give the back structure even when empty. Part of me is wondering if all that padding is really necessary though. It's a bit excessive in my opinion. The side pockets for the water bottles are even padded and it just takes up excess space. Like do you really need padding to protect your water bottle. And on top of that the pockets have their own liner as well, and there is not excess fabric to fill the potential space, so the pockets are not as deep as the actual bag would be without them if that makes sense. I wish the bottle pockets went up a bit higher to create a deeper pocket so that my bottle won't fall out. You get a lot for what you pay for, but all that padding is going to add to the weight of it, take up more space, and make it heavier than it needs to be. I only put a laptop and a iPad with some notebooks and it feels so heavy like I packed out the entire bag. There are some convenient pockets like a hidden one for your passport and a side access for laptop. Some may say they wish there were more exterior quick access pockets, but the one on the side I think may serve that purpose. The most important thing for me was having a horizontal luggage pass so that it can sit vertically on your suit case. so many bags do the vertical luggage pass, which makes no sense to me especially if you have a water bottle in the side pocket. Also the bottom of the bag is tapered so it sits slanted. Also some of the stitching is a bit loose and there are a bunch of thread ends sticking out. I am hesitant to keep this bag to be honest, but overall well built

After researching a bunch of bags online, I decided to check out the Thule Subterra 2. This bag exceeded my expectations. The first thing that I noticed was the excellent build quality - it's not hard shell but the construction is sturdy enough that it holds it's shape nicely even when empty. Everything I need for my daily commute both fits easily and is readily accessible. One thing to note is that in the photos you can't really see it but the the "slate grey" option that I picked has a very subtle blue tint - not enough that it catches your attention if it's in your peripheral vision but if you look straight at it you notice that this isn't just a ho-hum cheap grey bag.

Love it. Spend a little extra and get this one. It's worth it.

Perfect travel backpack. Very well made. Minimalist design but still very functional, appropriate amount of interior storage, lightweight, durable. 15" laptop fits easily, bigger would likely fit too.

This is a bag I am searching for, made from high-quality material and well-designed. Thule, a Swedish brand, is known for producing products that are not only attractive but also highly functional. As many of us know, Swedish companies often create designs that balance beauty and practicality.

Pros: * False bottom (laptop compartment) * Inside compartments at the top of the main and second comparment to easily access items from the top (as opposed to sliding to search for things at the bottom) * Horizontal luggage strap * Minimalist logo + Stylish (recieved compliments), * Light colour inner compartment to easily find things * Lightweight * Durable-looking Cons: *Zipper pull tabs slide off. After ~ 3 months use, one of the zipper's pull tab slid off; ~ 4 months in, another pull tab slid off. I don't know how to put it back on and so I no longer benefit from the anti-theft feature * Unreliable side pockets. My bottles / umbrella would fall out due to too much room; one compartment has poor elasticity, while the other compartment is zippered (I use it store snacks). * Shoulder straps feel flimsy (but they're still holding up) * Lack of an anti-theft feature by the laptop's side compartment * Side handle is on the right-hand side (when your wearing the bag). This is a problem if you want to wear the bag on the left shoulder (personal preference), and then easily take off the bag by swinging it and grabbing a handle. * Innappropriate key leash placement. Key leash should have been placed in a side compartment so you can swing the bag and quickly access it. Instead, the key leash is in the second bag compartment. * Inner compartment gets dirty easily. A colour darker (but still bright) than light grey could have been used, balancing visibility and low-maintenance requirements. * Poor self-standing. Bag has to be packed in a certain way to stand on its own * Zippers run a bit loud Suggestion: The anti-theft feature could be easier to apply if the pull tabs could interlock, instead of having to slide through the loop.

it's early days yet but this seems like a pretty solid backpack. It feels well put together. It has plenty of space for what I need. I take it to work everyday so I have laptop, computer cables and a drive, a notebook, pens and stuff, a couple of novels, and some other stuff, a jumper, and there is room for quite a bit more. Pocket layout is ok. It seems pretty secure. I like the thick outer fabric. It look like it will be pretty robust. I intend to use this backpack also for travel for short stays away so I can take cabin baggage only. I think it will be big enough for a change of clothes, some toiletries and some shoes. The backpack sits well on my back. It sits highish and is quite snug, so easy to carry and use. The padded laptop section is easy to access and seems to provide good protection. I guess the real test is how I feel about this backpack in a few years time once it's got some miles on it. I'm hopeful for a good result because Thule tends to be a reliably good brand. I want to like this backpack.

This is one of my favourite all time BPs. I have a 14" MB and it fits perfectly. I love the size for commuting and I can even put my lunch it it. Really nothing I can say I don't like. Really great backpack!
