Great EDC Knife Fast Opening
I have added this to my EDC rotation. It is super thin and doesn't take up much space or weight in my pocket. The blade size is good for normal use. The knife is spring assisted. With a small flick with you thumb it opens itself. The quality is better than I expected. It is sturdy and easy to open. I think it is a great knife for the $40 price. The blade is sharp and easy to hone to razor sharp.

This knife has a specific purpose.
I’ve had the knife for 4 years now and carry almost every day. If you are a blue collar guy or retired and wear jeans everyday I wouldn’t bother with this one. I have several SOGs and like them all. My favorites are the Trident and the Slim Jim. This is so light and thin you literally forget you’re carrying it. I wear it with slacks or shorts. Because it’s so light and thin it’s not as easy to flick open but that comes with the light weight! It’s wicked sharp and holds an edge. No I would use this one to pry and beat on but that’s not what it’s for. It’s for cutting and is certainly competent for self defense. When I wear jeans I carry a heavier knife like the Trident. It’s easier to flick open and is much thicker and easier to manipulate. Blade is thicker as well. If you work in an office and want to have a lightweight super tough bulletproof knife, the Slim Jim is for you.

Great knife but be careful learning how to use it.
A very nice compact pocket knife. It is easily clipped to my pocket and available when needed. Does not make a bulge in my pocket or prevent removing other objects. The blade is extremely sharp and the right size for general use. I have had several other SOG knives and know they need to be worked for a while to smooth out the works. Be very careful when doing this. If you have no experience with SOG opening assist really be careful. It is quite easy to cut yourself when learning how to open this knife and smoothing the action. It won't take long and you will be able to reliably open this knife with one hand. Until you are reliably getting full open and locked check before using to prevent the sharp blade closing on your fingers.

Disappoint spring assist
Knife sounded so promising. But the assisted opening does not work well and still requires two hands to open and lock. The blade lock also easily gets nudged in my pocket. I like the sharpness and weight but really need a one-handed knife when I am working. This one won't do it.

12 years later...still trash
I really wanted to like this knife, it is the thinnest EDC knife I could find with assisted opening and fit great in all types of pants pockets. I have had a few SOG products and haven't really been impressed. When I first received it I was not pleased with the sharp edges where you thumb would rest and really, a lot of sharp edges on the handle. When used extensively for a repetitive task it would damage your hands and fingers. But I wasn't planning to use it that much, mainly just for carrying around. Unfortunately after a few months of very light duty it started to have problems. It no longer closes completely, it can be forced into closing but drifts out almost 1/4 inch making it so that it will open at the slightest touch. Almost a near disaster when this opened in my pocket during a pickup basketball game. Also, the screws holding it together had become loose and one has been lost in the carpet (they are tiny screws). The knife is unusable right now. No problem, I thought, I'll send it to them like I do with my Benchmade, Kershaw etc and pay the $5 to have it maintained and sharpened (they will recreate a tip if needed). But no, their website says they want $9 and it has to be a money order and I have no #*$& idea to even get a money order. so as far as after-sales support they are crap as well - avoid this knife as it will eventually come apart due to a flawed design and crap execution.

Great lightweight knife with some limitations
I held back from purchasing this knife for a while because of the mixed reviews. I was looking for a good little work knife, not a novelty piece, so I was concerned by the reviews saying that the assisted opening didn't work well, or that it was difficult to hold/use. The assisted open takes practice to get right, but once you have it down, it works fine. At first, I had the same problem as other reviewers with the knife only flipping out half way. I figured out that I had to use the clip on the side to give me enough leverage to press the thumb stud. After opening and closing the knife a hundred times or so, it's gotten pretty smooth. It still takes a little more force to open than what I'd call ideal, but it's very useable as an everyday work knife. I also loosened the blade hinge about a quarter turn, which seemed to take out a little bit of the "tightness". Craftsmanship wise, I have no complaints. Fit and finish are good, and the handle is surprisingly comfortable in spite of how thin it is. The ridges along the back of the blade allow you to get your thumb behind the blade to push through tougher material. One ergonomic drawback that wasn't obvious is that the knife is so thin, it's hard to open with gloves on. The stiff opening action also makes it a bit difficult to use when your hands are wet, which is a drag if you have to work in the rain or you're sweating in the heat. I've never had the knife open in my pocket, but I still use the blade lock most of the time just in case. This is a great everyday knife--it's small and slim enough that I forget it's in my pocket, which means I'm not tempted to leave it at home. The short blade makes it legal to carry in most American cities.

Absolute Kaufempfehlung.

Gute Idee, schlecht umgesetzt.
