Abracadabra Double Bass Beginner (Pupil's book + CD) (Abracadabra Strings Beginners)

Disappointing
I bought this for an older beginner while appreciating that it was aimed at children. However, I'm not sure how useful it would be even for a school pupil. A sizeable chunk of the book is devoted to warm-up exercises and games (useful, but how many do you need?!). Then you get quite a number of tunes using just open strings (OK, it's for young beginners) but then they introduce harmonics, which seems very odd (and potentially quite difficult) at this early stage. You don't get to play any tunes with fingered strings until the last few pages of the book. What puzzles me is that the book - judging by its style and language - is obviously aimed at very young children (no more than 6 or 7 I'd guess) but surely they would be physically too small to be playing upright bass anyway. I also spotted, just on a quick skim through, a couple of spelling/grammatical mistakes, which really should have been edited out of a book aimed at kids: the blurb inside the cover has 'played quieter' instead of 'played more quietly' and on page 30 we find 'here' instead of 'hear'!I know there is not an abundance of material for teaching/learning upright bass but there must surely be something for school-age children that beats this.

OK
Has some good practises, my son is very new to the double bass and finds a lot of the the practises are at a rather quick pace. Having the CD helps you hear what it should sound like - but perhaps would benefit from some slower examples?
