SCIENTIFICALLY ACCURATE? 🤯🤯🤯 Conversation starter, cool decoration, and fun build ALL IN ONE!
Building this set was SUPER fun!!! As a Lego Technic lover and space lover, I saw this set and immediately said "I WANT THAT ONE"! On top of a fun build process, I did some research into it and learned a lot of cool stuff, too! 🥰 Here's some interesting facts: 1. This kind of mechanical solar system diorama has a name, it's called an "orrery"! 2. This orrery makes 365 rotations for earth, and about 13 rotations for the moon per 1 year cycle 3. The tilt angle of the earth is ALSO scientifically accurate as well, making this EVEN COOLER!!! The Lego piece holding the earth has a 157.5 degree angle, 180-157.5 = 22.5 degrees, and earth's REAL tilt obliquity is 23.4 degrees, making this Lego model 0.9 degrees off from reality. (less than a single degree!!! are you kidding??? 🤯) Applying the stickers to the big round parts can be tricky, but with enough patience it's certainly doable! You may need to stick and re-stick a tiny part of them to the pieces a couple times to get their placement correct, but the adhesive is sticky enough to handle that just fine without it causing them to start peeling off afterwards. An absolutely BEAUTIFUL display piece by Lego, bravo to them... I've had many friends come over and play with it, too! Very educational, great conversation starter, and a great build to help decorate your place with 🥰

More accuracy and quality than expected
I rarely leave reviews for Lego sets, but this one was so far above and beyond that I had to do it. So many things about this set are highly accurate: the tilt of the earth, which corresponds to the proper seasons (months of the year are indicated); the number of times the moon orbits the earth per year; the map of the countries on the earth (we put a sharpie dot to indicate our location); the spin of the earth corresponds to one day while the rotation of the earth around the sun corresponds to one year; and the face of the moon consistently faces the earth. The set is stable, and well constructed. My son wants to turn the handle one “day” every day, and watch the progress of the earth around the sun for a full year. This prompted a lot of great solar system discussions and discovery, including how big and how far away the sun would be if it were accurate scale-wise, with the earth approximately the size of a golf ball. Overall, a lot more accuracy and quality than we expected!

Fascinating and Educational Space-Themed LEGO Set
The LEGO Technic Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit building set is a fantastic combination of fun, education, and impressive engineering. This set offers an engaging build experience with a clever mechanical system that simulates the orbit of the Moon around Earth, making it a perfect choice for space enthusiasts and budding engineers alike. The assembly process is enjoyable and satisfying, featuring Technic elements that provide a hands-on way to understand orbital mechanics. The build quality is solid, and once completed, the rotating function works smoothly, adding a dynamic element to the display. The details on Earth and the Moon are beautifully crafted, with accurate representations and vibrant colors that make it a great educational piece for kids and adults. One of the standout aspects of this set is how it seamlessly combines playability with an educational component. It’s a great way to spark curiosity about space and planetary motion. The only minor downside is that it requires careful alignment to ensure smooth operation, but with a little patience, it works beautifully. Pros: Engaging and educational design Smooth orbital movement with Technic gears High-quality build with attention to detail Great display piece for space lovers Cons: Requires careful assembly for optimal functionality Might be too simplistic for experienced Technic builders Overall, the LEGO Technic Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit set is a fantastic addition for anyone interested in space, science, or engineering. It’s a unique blend of learning and fun, making it a perfect gift for both kids and adults.

Best Technic set I've ever built
The detailed clockwork of this set is incredible, and what makes it all the more impressive is that the relative rotational speeds of the sun and earth, along with the speed of the earth's and the moon's orbits are all accurate, while maintaining the correct tilt of the earth throughout its orbit (I counted the number of earth rotations in a single orbit, and it was about 350, which might not be exact, but is pretty darned close for a lego model). It was fun to build with my 8 year old daughter, who did the majority of the assembly, and it's a great learning tool for demonstrating not only the earth's orbit, but the importance of the earth's tilted axis.

Challenging but Fun Building Set
The LEGO Technic Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit Building Set is a great addition for space enthusiasts! While the set is advertised for 10-year-olds, I found it a bit challenging for the age group, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing—it adds to the fun and sense of accomplishment. The design is imaginative, and it doubles as a fantastic piece of space-themed room décor once completed. It’s perfect for independent play and for encouraging creativity and problem-solving skills. A great gift for kids and even older LEGO fans who love a good challenge!

Hoooo-Leeeeee cow! Lego totally knocked it out of the park with this one! It is perfection in engineering and a true marvel. We are a devoted Lego family with an entire room dedicated to it, and we love the thought and effort that goes into creating modern Lego sets, especially on the Technic side. But this one is seriously next level. Turning the crank causes the earth to rotate, going through it's daily orbit. In the past, I've tried teaching my six year old how the sun rises and sets with a full size globe and flashlight, but that's the limit of what you can demonstrate with two hands. Trying to show how the moon also orbits and how the seasons work as they revolve around the sun- forget about it. You have to resort to a whiteboard and that's when their attention span wanes. This Lego build was not only fun to do together, but when complete, it does the perfect job of showing how all the orbits in the system work with each other. After 30-ish revolutions of the earth on its axis showing the days, the moon has made a full revolution around the earth showing a month. And meanwhile, both earth and moon are orbiting the sun and have made it 1/12th of the way around. The months are marked on the base ring, with a pointer indicating the current month. And as the earth and moon revolve, the earth's axial tilt changes and proximity to the sun as well as they revolve through the seasons. We're often in awe of what Lego engineers can create, and our last build was the Lego John Deere skidder, which we thought was a marvel of engineering. But we're even more blown-away-impressed at this. For space fans or just plain Lego fans, you'll love it. As for the build itself, it's listed by Lego as appropriate for 10 year olds. That means that some sections really do require a bit more guidance for younger kids, and a time or two where even this adult did some head-scratching and grimacing to figure out where a piece went. Not a criticism of the instructions, that is normal when it's rated 10 as they are inherently more complicated. Counting occasional snack breaks, and the inevitable outbreak of a monster-gun-fights, it took three hours to build. I wish I could give this more than five stars.

This set is a blast to build and operate, and it was extremely satisfying to build using the technic platform to see the functions start to materialize during the building process. Overall a fun build and an even better set to operate after completion; it’s one of the few sets I keep going back to spin the planets around and see the variable rotation in action. The finished piece looks good overall, though a bit on the clunky side, but the functionality makes up for any shortfalls in the finished product not being a showstopper.
