A second book on Javascript, I will explain
This book is an excellent, excellent resource for beginning programming. It will show you how to create a video game using the canvas with javascript. However, javascript is the second step in Web Development. The first step is mastering HTML. My recommendation is first go through "Get Coding!: Learn HTML, CSS & JavaScript & Build a Website, App & Game". That book will help you master HTML. Once you have completed that book, make sure you continue with this book. This book is an excellent resource and a companion to the other book I mentioned. It will continue where the other book leaves off at. This book will also be a very fun-read, since you will be creating a video game from scratch and expanding on the same game in each chapter. Don't skip any steps in this book and always review a few pages going back to make sure you understand the concepts. Great book for kids (and adults) wanting to learn how to program.

Mostly good
A lot of material covered. Might be a little too much for a 10-year-old.

Mistake in code
I have been working on this code with my 12 year old son during the great pandemic of 2020. It was going pretty well until page 44. I double checked my code on the website given in the book and I did exactly as it said and it still doesn't work. Huge disappointment for my son, and ME. Even though we are stuck at home, what a waste of time.

I actually bought this book through my daughters school scholastic book fair and after doing the lessons with my daughter, I broke it out to individual lessons and started purchasing the book to help younger students getting into programming understand how this works and where to get started. The only complaint I have is it can be hard to follow where the author is exactly trying to relat where and when the new code gets inserted and why but overall they do a pretty good job and the limitation is likely based on publishing costs on page real-estate for the book. Once I got it working right for me, I was able to help others understand and document it in the right locations. This is a great first start for young developers. My daughter, age 10, loved it.

informational book that had more numbers and codes that words
Create With <Code> Make Your Own Game, written by Jurie Horneman explains how to code a game. Horneman goes through step-by-step what to do to program a game on your computer. The coders use a programming language called JavaScript and a website called scholastic.com/coder-dojo. JavaScript is what coders use to write their code, and the website helps to understand difficult things. There are many people in the world who sit down and create video games or websites for other people. The first thing they have to understand is how to code the game. This book goes through everything you have to understand to program something like that. This book was a very informational book, but it isn’t for everyone. This book is good for kids who want to understand every detail of how to program and what things to do to make the perfect game. This book gets 3 stars because it wasn’t a book I expected. This book isn’t a book that is easy to review since it is an informational book that had more numbers and codes that words. It is a beginner book, but it does give lots of helpful information. It isn’t a book for people who don’t like working with technological things. It is an interesting book that was a hard to review, but it was very filled with good information. This book was good for people who like science, technology, and coding. It gives many examples of how to make the perfect game. Even though this book wasn’t my favorite book, it is a book that many people will enjoy.Review by Zelie M., age 13, Central Pennsylvania Mensa
