Watch out for nonstandard wire colors and pair-splits
I used these to bring out low-speed serial bus signals (I2C / SMbus), and +12V/+5V DC power to the rear panel of a computer for a custom control application. They work well for this purpose. I had hoped to use some existing DE-9 sized panel knockouts, which *almost* fit these, but not quite - both the connector opening and mounting holes had to be enlarged somewhat with a Dremel tool.Note that if you plan to cut and splice or solder these, the wire color to pin mappings are different from a standard Cat5, etc. cable or Ethernet jack, so be sure to ohm them out. I'll post the pin mappings I found below, but this could possibly vary across different batches. Also, the wires inside these appear to not be twisted-pairs, but just plain, straight wires inside a shield, as you might find inside an RS-232 serial cable. This would cause an impedance variance, and possible trouble when carrying high-speed signals such as Gigabit Ethernet, particularly when attached to long cables. Even if they were twisted, the color assignments suggest nonstandard pair-splits-- e.g. pins 3,4 are together, then 5,6, rather than 3&6 and 4&5. If your cables are short enough this may not matter, especially at 10/100M speeds. For my low-speed I2C application it wasn't an issue.I found mine to be wired as follows:pin color (EIA-568B standard color)1 brown/white orange/white2 brown orange3 blue/white green/white4 blue blue5 green/white blue/white6 green green7 orange/white brown/white8 orange brown

Perfect! Just what I needed to easily
Perfect! Just what I needed to easily, and accessibly break the connection between my computer and DVR when I need to. My satellite provider was constantly downloading movies to my DVR on their own (no matter how many times I called, and no matter how many fixes they tried) which ate up all my bandwidth from my internet satellite provider. Down in rural country, we don't have many choices for high speed internet. I was paying almost double to buy additional bandwidth, but I like having the connection because I could communicate with my computer for photos, and movies. Reaching behind things to connect, and disconnect was a pain, so I got this extension to make that task simpler. Now when I want to reconnect my computer to my DVR, I can do so with ease.

saved me from buying a whole new cord
this adapter works well on the end of my cord that I broke the lock tab off and it would not keep connection in my laptop

No screws included
These panel mount ethernet cables did not come with mounting screws. Be prepared to dig through your parts box hoping for just the right screws. Good luck.
