Probably the best method of keeping your brush and lather warm.
The upside: A scuttle is probably the best, if not the only, way you're going to be able to keep your brush and lather warm in between shave passes. The downside: Ceramic scuttles are fragile. They break. Be careful with it. My previous ceramic scuttle, made by a different company, lasted several years. But, it only took one slip and it broke in the sink. I bought a plastic one from a Phoenix place thinking I would have the best of both worlds; unbreakable material paired with the warming features of a scuttle. I was wrong. The plastic sheds heat like my dog sheds fur in August. Ceramic is key to holding onto the warmth and keeping the lather and brush warm. If you're reading all the reviews, you'll see that some people complain about the silicone cork that is provided with this QShave scuttle not staying in the hole. The silicone is just too slick to stay in the hole, and it keeps popping out. I had the same problem with my previous scuttle, which had a rubber cork. The cork just wouldn't stay in the hole once the scuttle was filled with hot water. While I won't pretend to understand the physics or science of this problem, I'll happily claim that I've found the solution, and it's a dirt cheap (less than a dollar) solution so there's no reason not to buy this scuttle based upon the negative cork reviews. The solution? Go to your local hardware store and buy a similar sized cork made from actual cork. Real cork just stays put in the hole, like it was meant to be there. Perfect! I've used my QShave scuttle numerous times since my purchase, and I'm happy with it. I've done four-pass shaves (face and head) and I've noticed the lather feels nice and warm with each lathering. Keep in mind the scuttle is ceramic, my friends, so by default that means it's fragile. But, a ceramic scuttle holds heat better than anything else I've found. And be forewarned with a dose of common sense: ceramic is slippery when paired with shaving soap and water, so treat it like the very, very fragile ego of your liberal neighbor who believes world peace is possible. Good luck, and shave happily!

Finally, warm lather!
I've been using a steel lather bowl for years, and it was always actively cooling my lather, so that a second pass was cold and even a first pass wasn't hot. This mug keeps it hot for three passes. The bowl has ridges that make it faster to build up a thicker, richer lather, and it has room for a decent amount. I can't believe I went this long without it. I was slightly worried about the silicone plug that other reviewers mentioned popping out, but that is truly a non-issue. You can 1: tilt the mug back while filling to fully fill it with no air bubbles, because the hot air is what would push the cork out, or 2: not use the plug. You're using this over the sink, if some water drips out, no big deal, it still keeps the bowl hot. But I just use method 1 and the cork stays in. A silly little hidden feature is that when emptying the water from inside, you can use it to rinse the whiskers from the sides of the sink.

Scuttles really make a difference
This review is going to be long but if you want to know about my experience please read below. TL:DR Using a shaving scuttle is worth it. It does make a difference when shaving. This is great for the price. I have been on and off the wet shaving bandwagon for years. I started out like most men and used can foam and a multi-blade cartridge razor when I was 18. I started messing with wet shaving (safety razor, shave oils, creams, etc.) around 2009. I have had success with most products that I have used. Around 2014, an Art of Shaving brick and mortar store opened at the local mall. I was curious about it and went it. For the first time in my life I was able to smell, touch, and use products. I found the place to be wonderful. The price was not so wonderful. My wife purchase me a gift set with a razor, brush, and their shaving mug. It was the first time using a mug to make lather. The reason I got it was because it is in two pieces. The "mug" is ceramic and it is an insert into a pewter handle. The pewter handle is supposed to be filled with hot water and you put the ceramic "mug" into the insert to heat up. I tried several ways to do this. I would put hot water in the mug and handle. I would fill my sink with hot water and keep the two pieces in there to heat up then pour hot water in them. I would refill the hot water in the handle several times during a shave. I just never got the ceramics hot enough to my liking. I think the mug goes for around $80.00 USD and in my opinion it is not worth it. Sorry for the rant but I want you to know that I had no expectations of this scuttle whatsoever. I bought it after seeing some YouTube videos. If it didn't work then I would just return it. I shave everyday and I have used the schuttle for 1 week. I have used the scuttle with Proraso shaving soap, Proraso shaving cream, and Jack Black Supreme Cream. I used my pure badger hair brush from Edwin Jagger and my synthetic brush from Jack Black. My water temperature that comes from my tap is about 127-128 degress Fahrenheit. This thing performs unbelievably. I had to figure out the best way to get a warm lather for 3 passes and this is what I have come up with. 1.Fill the scuttle and the inner chamber with hot tap water and soak your brush for about 5 minutes. I do this while I am brushing my teeth. I have left it in there for about 20 minutes while showering but I have not seen a huge difference. I say about 5 to 7 minutes should be enough. 2. Drain the water and refill with hot water, I use my tap, and then use your soap or cream to develop a rich lather. The design of this really make it easy to develop a lather quicker than anything else I have used. 3. When you apply you should feel a warm sensation on your face. It really does make a difference to the shaving experience. 4. When you re-apply the foam, make sure you whip your brush in there for a minute. I found that the bottom of the scuttle retains the heat the best. Swirling the brush around will heat it back up and your 2nd pass will also be warm. I did not do this my first few times and I assumed that this was just how it was going to be. I was wrong. It really does keep the heat in. I found that my 3rd pass with my shaving cream is still warm when using this technique. This item really is great. The bowl is the right size and easy to hold. I palm the bottom of the bowl and stick my thumb in the handle to give me stability. That is something that the Art of Shaving mug did not allow me to do since it was in 2 pieces. This product has exceeed everything I could have asked for. I look forward to shaving every morning. Even if you do not want to but THIS particular scuttle, you owe it to yourself to buy one and try it. I gurantee that you will enjoy it. I got this one for under $20 USD and I would recommend it to anyone who just wants to give it a go. If you want to spend more money then a Georgia Pottery scuttle is second to none but is $65 USD. At that price you should try one before the commitment.

Best balance of depth, heat retention, material quality, and price for a lathering bowl.
This is currently one of my favorite shaving accessories. The design holds heat reasonably well using tap-hot water, but unless you're pouring in boiling water or heating the filled scuttle in a microwave, expect your lather to stay lukewarm rather than "hot." The design of the bowl makes lathering easy, but isn't quite as efficient as rough-finished bowls like Supply's marble lather bowl or the Vikings Blade Grand Chairman. Both bowls have a finish that improves lathering beyond the dimpling offered by the QSHAVE scuttle, but with a high-quality badger brush the lathering in this bowl is just fine. For quality and heat retention, this is currently my favorite. If lather temperature isn't important, or if you need a deeper bowl, then you might consider other options. However, for quality, heat retention, and price point, it's very hard to beat this particular product.

Warm shave cream; nothing better for shaving
There are few things more enjoyable than a warm shave cream applied to your face for shaving. This QSHAVE Shaving Scuttle Mug is perfect; good size that allows for brush swirling while keeping the soap inside the bowl; the ribs help with cream foam production and best of all - the double wall design allows hot water to surround the shave cream - keeping it nice and warm for the shaving. The scuttle mug promotes a very relaxing, very comfortable experience - a great way to start the day. Quality is excellent and so is the price!

Ok not great. Wouldn't buy again.
Overall good product. Maybe I was expecting to much. It keeps lather warm but barely warm then if you just used a bowl. Dont get me wrong it is an improvement over cold lather however the lather isn't hot by any means. Second issue is size and shape. For a 24mm knot its useable but tight. I wish the mug was wider and not as deep. Because of the depth the brush doesnt want to naturally move around. It does create decent lather but takes a like getting used to. I'd like to try with a smaller brush but honestly I'd look else where for a better wider scuttle or bowl.

Keeps lather very warm for three passes
Most of the warm water scuttles that I have seen work well and are about the same size. The big difference in the different scuttles was appearance and price. most of the scuttles are about $55. This one was half the normal price and worked as well as the best looking one out there. Remember what I was looking for is A warm lather shave for A great price. The Q scuttle gives you that.... My beard is heavy and my lather last for three passes. Oh! that cork that A few people comlained about works well and it is some sort of nylon but you really do not need to use it. I just fill up the scuttle with very hot water and leave the cork off in fact I just now threw it in the trash... i will not need it

Just a few things sacred now days! And one is shaving!
Just got mine today! First thing I did was heat up some water in the kettle, poured it in the bowl and filled it up! Waited maybe 5 minutes, poured the water out of the bowl and presto! It was too hot to freaking touch! So I emptied it out put hot tap water in and whipped up the best lather I've ever seen! Spreading over my face, working it into my beard felt so good I can't describe it! However, cant wait on my brand new Edwin jagged DE! to arrivel for the last few weeks ive been using a Van DerHagen because somebody stole my first DE 89 out of my hotel! There is nothing sacred anymore. Steeling a mans razor, thats just wrong! No kidding guys and girls too, if you've never shaved with rich, thick, fragrant hot foam that has the consistency of homemade whipped cream you should probably put that one on your bucket list! Yeah, it feels that good! Fantastic scuddle!

Great product
Excellent product and well made. Makes creating a lather very easy due to its generous size and keeps the lather warm for multiple pass shaving... highly recommended.

Prodotto purtroppo made in cina ma secondo me di qualità discreta.

Reasonably priced and efficient shave scuttle
In the style of Nick Shabbaz, I’ll use his The Good, The Great, The Bad and The Ugly format for this review. I’ve used the scuttle for a month’s worth of shaves since I bought it and I chose the white model. Good: The price is reasonable and it’s good to find an accessible scuttle. They can be hard to find and expensive when you do find them. It arrived quickly and was very securely wrapped and packaged, in an attractive box with a cut to fit foam insert. So there’s little chance of it being damaged in transit. The size is larger than I expected but it does allow you to create enough lather for a multiple pass shave. Great: It’s very easy to use. Simply fill it up with warm / hot tap water in the inner lining and the bowl and you can use it to soak your shaving brush as well providing warm lather. The scuttle works best with softer soaps or shaving creams, such as TOBs or Trumpers. The ridges around the sides and the bobbles in the base, enable you easily to create a soft and warm creamy lather. I found it best to use a small or medium brush, so you can get to the soap or cream at the bottom of the scuttle. It does what it says. It warms your lather and keeps it warm, adding a luxurious feel to your shaves. You very quickly become used to having warm lather and it’s noticeable when your lather isn’t warm. Bad: The listing said that the scuttle would come with a cork stopper. It didn’t. Mine arrived with a white plastic stopper, which I actually prefer. However, for the price paid, I would have liked them to have included at least a couple of stoppers, which would not have added anything to the cost, just in case the one they send goes missing. Despite the bowl being quite large, using larger knotted brushes means you cannot easily reach the bottom of the scuttle. If you are using a brush larger than a 22mm knot, I’d recommend sticking to face lathering. Small brushes work really well however. For harder soaps, I’d suggest face lathering, as the scuttle despite the ribs and bobbles, is too smooth for it. I’m not a fan of having QShave in prominent black ink, permanently printed on the side of the scuttle. No need for it at all in my opinion. Ugly: There is only one ugly thing using this scuttle. When it’s full of water and you’re lathering up, it can be heavy, slippery and awkward to hold. The handle is made of quite thin porcelain and has no grips at all. Unless you lay the scuttle down on your sink top, or hold it with your thumb through the handle, there’s a good chance it could slip from your hands. Don’t hold it by the handle alone! Overall I really like it.
