A simple OBD2 scanner reasonably priced - updated
Updated post - I've been trying out this scanner for over a month now and overall, I believe it's a great tool that's easy to use at a very reasonable price. And no need for third party software. The instructions for setting up the device may seem a little confusing. But this is what I did. Getting it to pair with your phone is the first thing you need to do. You need to download the app and enter your email. They use 2 step confirmation with your email which is good. Once you enter the code they send, the device is activated on their end. (If you don't do this, you will never see the device populate on your bluetooth list of your phone.) You cannot just plug it in and connect to your phone. you need to follow the steps on the app. Once the app is setup on the phone you'll scan the QR code on the device and then plug it into the car. I've attached a few photos to show how it works. The device will automatically connect to your ECU and it finds the VIN number and you just confirm the data to get started. Once this is complete you can begin to do your scanning. It works quickly and easily and shows the DTC codes and give a hyperlink if you want to look them up. You can then clear the codes and it walks you through the steps on the app. It does all this allows for switching between cars very easily. Something the earlier version of the AD20 did not do so well. I bought a couple of the earlier versions for my kids cars and it was a hassle switching cars and setting up each time. Initially I had an issue with the device throwing a VSC code on an older Lexus when I first got it. However, I reached out to their product support and they updated the software which fixed the problem in short order. (I have one of their professional scanners, the D7 and they've always been quick to make corrections for updates to take care of any issues.) So if you want a scanner to keep in your car for the occasional check when you have an MIL or DTC, this is a great option that's at the right price point. And you can't beat the customer service.

I Love this Thing!
We have a 2021 Ram Promaster 1500 camper van and are going to Death Valley in a couple of weeks and I really wanted to watch coolant temp and not rely on the center needle gauge on the dash. I originally had a ScanGuage II OBD engine performance and trouble code reader on an older vehicle, but I didn't like the corded feature and looked for something that used Bluetooth and a dedicated app for my iPhone. The AD20 Pro by XTool fit those requirements, and boy am I glad I found it. The free, proprietary app was easy to find in the app store, and the setup and pairing in my driveway was super easy. The general settings are intuitive, was able to set units to US (deg F, miles, and gallons) and turn on warnings for coolant temp and DTC codes. The real shakedown will be when we leave on our trip, but just the fact I can actually see coolant temp is worth the price I paid the the AD20 Pro, and it was not that expensive at all!

Engine, ABS and more
This is a great device for $20. I haven't located the manual yet for some of the technical abbreviations used, and there is some missing live data that I would like to see but again maybe it's there somewhere but I need to see the manual. Definitely more versatile than the lower end scanners costing much more than this device. A lot of bang for the buck.

Poor Customer Service
I purchased this scanner a few days ago. I set it up and was able to get the fault code on Friday. I repaired the truck and tried to connect again that night. The unit wouldn’t pair with my truck. I then removed and reinstalled the app and tried to log on again, unsuccessfully! Customer service is not available over the weekend. I called Monday morning and was told to turn off my phone and try again. This required hanging up. I did this without success I get the message below. “Device has already been bound by others”. I tried customer service 3 times and couldn’t get through. When I did they told me I had to send an email with everything I just explained to the CS agent. I would not recommend purchasing this item.
