"It's true that this book is about me. (It's hard to avoid that when writing stories from my own life.) But this is also a book about trials big and small--about cancer, about suffering, about death--and especially about the temptation to fear. Sounds like a real downer, I know. But let me assure you that, while these frightful things are the reason for this book, none of them is the point of this book. The real point is God Himself and the comfort that His fearful and afflicted children can find only by trusting Him." ~ Hannah K. Grieser, from the Preface The Clouds Ye So Much Dread is a beautiful blend of memoir, theology, meditation, and storytelling. Each of these chapters--from dreading the birth of her first child, to living in unfamiliar and dangerous places, to facing the news that her son had been diagnosed with cancer--describes the stories through which Hannah K. Grieser has come to see that hard or uncertain circumstances, rather than being cause for doubt and dread, can instead become the unasked-for means that our loving Father uses to turn us toward Him and to show us His faithfulness. Told in Hannah's graceful yet punchy prose, the reflections in this powerful book will challenge readers to revisit their own hard times and see how God can take the storms that we most fear and turn them into downpours of blessings. Review: Great book on dealing with fear from a biblical perspective. - “The Clouds Ye So Much Dread: Hard Times and the Kindness of God” by Hannah K. Grieser Review “Evading death is not the point of living.” (30) Every Christian faces fear. Whether it is fear of sickness, fear of driving, fear of death, fear of suffering, fear of missing out, or something else, we all are faced with situations and circumstances that can lead to anxiety, fear, or full-blown panic. We know that as a Christians we ought to trust God, but sometimes we struggle to do this when life does not go the way it planned or unexpected suffering comes our way. Hannah K. Grieser’s book “The Clouds Ye So Much Dread: Hard Times and the Kindness of God” is an excellent book to help Christians deal with fear in a biblical and winsome manner. Grieser’s book is a mix of story and theology which helps a believer address fear in their lives. She went through some scary and challenging situations—including having a child get cance—and is able to testify to the goodness of God who carried her through it all. I was really enjoyed how she used stories but grounded the reader in biblical, gospel-centered truth. She offers lots of great wisdom and point us to trust in the sovereignty of a sovereign, good God and she exposes much of the ways that our fears reveal unbelief in our hearts. Also, I appreciated how she touched on a lot of the topics that cause fear and worry especially among middle class Americans (fear of our plans not working out, fear of driving, fear of what we eat). Grieser is spot on when she says this: “Our lives are in God’s hands, but it’s not always easy to live as though we believe it. We distrust the Author and try to wrest the pen from His fingers and into our own. It’s tragically laughable.” (78) I hope this book gets a broad expose and is read by many. It is FAR better than the sentimental, self-help sap that is sadly popular among so many today. posted on my blog: ttschmidt.com Review: Helped my fear - As a mom with a child on leukemia treatment, this book hit me hard. In a good way. It showed me how completely wrapped up in fear I had become. It helped me reset my mind while we complete the cancer journey and beyond. Nothing in life is under my control and the sooner I can learn that and lean on the One who is in control, the more at peace I’ll be.

Good spirit filled writing
Beautiful writing from this mom walking through a cancer journey with her son. Judicious use of scripture and practical guidance and wisdom on walking with a spiritual mindset during a season (or 2 or 3) Of deep trial

Wow!
This is one of those books you could read again and again and never get tired of!! It is rich with solid Biblical truths and promises of God,that we Christians far too often forget when trials arise in our lives. I laughed so much with some of the stories told and almost burst into tears while reading it in other parts. It was everything I needed in the moment of trial in my own life, God knows exactly what we need when we need it and I'm so happy I was drawn to read this book at the very moment I did, it was a great help!! I'm so thankful to the author for sharing it with all of us! Soli Deo Gloria!!!

"It’s easy to say He’s good when hard things are happening to other people. But are we singing the same tune when the hard thing happens to us? Do we really believe that God is good? Or do we actually believe that God is nothing but a fickle tyrant—one we must flatter with glowing sentiments when we’re sitting in the lap of luxury, and on whom we can simply turn our backs when we’re sitting in the ashes of sorrow? Dear Christian, would you turn away from the God you say is good if anything truly painful were to happen to you? Then the God you believe in isn’t the one you pretend to worship." Yes!! Loved everything about this book. So refreshing and encouraging!

Wonderful Personal Encouragement
This book has been such an encouragement to me in my own life as the author points to God's goodness and mercy in the midst of her own personal trial, the diagnosis of her son with cancer. It's filled with Biblical truth and captivating memoirs as she recounts stories of what God has done in her heart and life through the unexpected. I highly recommend!

Beautifully written.
The title of this sweet and encouraging book is taken from a poem written by William Cowper, “God Moves In A Mysterious Way”. This line says it all: “Ye fearful saints fresh courage take, the clouds that you much dread, are big with mercy and will break in blessings on your head.” That mercy breaks in blessings during difficult situations is what gives saints courage. Highly recommended especially if you are going through health or relationship difficulties- Hannah Grieser’s perspective will give you hope for she points you to Christ, the only One who can truly heal your heart.

Important, if not essential perspective on mortality and fear
What does it mean when someone says, “God will take care of you”? Does it mean He won’t let us die? I think this book is a great foray into our mortality, fear and how we need to think about these things as Christians. Hannah Greiser is wise, humorous and down-to-earth. I was glad to read the truths she laid out at 39,000 feet on a recent trip, in my usual white-knuckled position. It definitely loosened my grip, reminded me of things easily forgotten and encouraged my soul.
