Doreen Valiente was one of the most respected English witches to have influenced the modern day Pagan movement. In this book, a re-visit of her first literary outing of 1962, she examines Witchcraft in Sussex, the role of the Horned God, hares and the Moon, folk-rites and the powers of Witchcraft. She is hereby laying the foundations of the modern day Witchcraft movement. As Gerald Gardner is now commonly thought of as the 'Father' of contemporary Witchcraft, so Doreen is known affectionately as the 'Mother of Modern Witchcraft'. Review: Doreen is love - Everything in this book was wonderful. It's one of my favourite readings. I think that Doreen is a part of the witchcraft history, and for me, far more important that G.G. Well written
This book is a short read and full of excellent information. I enjoy her writing anyway but this book had some older and more obscure information about our religious origins in Wicca specifically. I highly recommend this work for beginners just to give you an idea of the difference between Wicca and Witchcraft. Take an afternoon and read through this book. It's worth it.
