Is this case (particularily the sides) a soft non-slippery plastic or a harder slick plastic?

The sides are more towards the hard slick plastic, however is not 100% hard. It;s not non-slipery, it;s not rubber. I really like the feel, to be honest.

does the case have a lip on the front to protect the screen

It has a bit of a lip, but it's not very deep. I purchased a screen saver from Apple in addition to the case.

What material is the back of the case? (not the sides)

Not sure what the material is, some sort of flexible plastic/silicone. Anyway, the sides and back are of that same material, they are not separate pieces.
