ESV MacArthur Study Bible, Large Print Leather Bound – Large Print, 28 Feb. 2017

The study notes are excellent and the leather cover feels nice, but the paper feels a little thinner than other bibles I have and there is no line on line printing so you get a lot of text showing through (see picture). I have othe Crossway bibles at half this price which do have line on line printing. The study notes are excellent and the font size is good so I will probably keep this bible but overall I am disappointed at the quality for the price.

What a buy!!!! Wow. I love it and find I cannot put it down. It is so easy to read and very helpful. I have learned so much and am always wanting to know more. It explains very clearly how to use the Bible. There are footnotes, cross-reference, concordance. Every Christian should have one. Those who have the gift of preaching will find it a gem as it offers so much, it is all there for you. One more thing there are headings of where you can find things etc.. Jesus, Parables, Job's Living Death, Images of God in the Psalm. I love it when I discover something new. Best ever buy.

I have benefitted enormously from John Macarthur's Study Bible and highly recommend it for all. In particular, I feel that he always exegetes* the passage rather than importing in his own theology. He provides useful cultural, historical and linguistic insights into the passage in question to enlighten it and not nullify its meaning. His writing is concise and ordered but not lacking in meaning, and although some technical vocabulary is required, by and large someone who has been in the word for about a year should understand it. There is little theological jargon and any that remains can be looked up. Perhaps best of all is his dedication to "dress Scripture with Scripture"- i.e. to constantly provide biblical references to support his exegesis* and passages which are similar in meaning for extra reading.I was also thankful that it has been made in the English Standard Version, which is arguably the best translation, and as a literal translation, necessary for studying the Bible. (As opposed to just reading it).Negatively, he (as mentioned by other reviewers) does not provide much commentry upon certain passages, particularly in the Old Testament. I felt his commentry upon Jeremiah was lacking. Furthermore, the only disappointing commentry in and of itself was his commentry on 1 Corinthians 14. I am not a pentecostal, nor a charismatic, and, knowing John Macarthur's rejection of the gift of tongues I was interested to investigate his claims. I didn't feel that he had taken the full truth of the passage to the open but instead had introduced his own opinion.Nevertheless, a quality book worthy of having. If I was to have any one commentry it would be his, and I am thankful to God that this book exists.God Bless you all.*exegesis is the extraction of the meaning of the text. eisegesis is its opposite which is importing a meaning into the text.

This is an excellent Bible Study aid & constitutes a "MUST BUY" for any serious Bible student, or even anyone just beginning to study the Bible. Dr MacArthur gives an introduction to each book of the Bible with helpful notes & insights gleaned from a lifetime of Bible study & discusses all the major themes & present-day challenges to Biblical truth. There is a comment on virtually every verse of the Bible & so far, after six weeks' use, I can find no fault with any of his interpretation or analysis. I heartily recommend this publication.

Top, top author and pastor. a little light in the old testament teaching notes, but wow its excellent in every other way. I have bought two copies as I tend to give my bibles away to those I meet on the train or when I am out, so I found the price of this bible welcoming.

This study bible is filled with side notes and information you probably wouldn't think of in the first place. I appreciate John MacArthur's work for the Lord in general and take this bible to every study and sermon I go to to. I can highly recommend this.

Text is well laid out and easy to read. I really like this study bible and wish I could give it 5 stars. However I received an open box version with some slight damage to the cover. It looks like this may have been a previously returned unit and may have been dropped on its edge. The leather is very thin compared to my original 90's study bible. I think this is how they are all made these days.

Ik weet niet of dat nu echt nog een meerwaarde is.Je krijgt nu wat John MacArthur over een bepaalde tekst te zeggen heeft. Soms is dat interessant, maar het blijft ook ver weg van enige toepassing.Waar ik eigenlijk nood aan heb is aan een studybible, die naast uitleg ook een duiding geeft aan de tekst van de bijbel, niet dat ik die dan slaafs zou volgen, maar het is fijn te weten hoe een andere christen iets toepast voor zichzelf. Het lijkt erop dat wij vandaag alles open laten en niet meer durven vergeestelijken.Ik gebruik deze studiebijbel, maar ben vaak wat teleurgesteld over wat ik lees en zou graag willen dat de uitleg wat verder ging.

Cheapest paper ...almost as thin as newsprint....tears easily and very, very fine script. Would not buy again for sure.

Excellent study bible. I must say it's a very beautiful bible. From the quality to the writing . Can comprehend easily. Must buy ! Text size is a little small in personal size edition .Delivery was very slow . However the Bible was great.

One of the best study bibles! I highly recommend this one. The only down size is the font is a little big for me which makes it a little thick. But you could always purchase a smaller font study bible.

Very handy study bible. Even the paper quality is so satisfactory!

I bought this for my husband and he loves it. He says the study notes are better than any Bible he's owned. Please note that the print is TINY and you will either need above average eyesight or a magnifying glass.

I have the hardcopy and wanted it for my kindle as well. A great resource to have as part of your bible collection. MacArthur is well versed and gives strong and biblically sound commentaries/footnotes.

It's nice to get further clarification from John in his comments. I may not agree with everything he believes, but he has lots to share.
