Use to screw plywood on a pontoon boat. Worked well except for a few of them

The point of this product is a drill-bit that drills a pilot hole that the threaded shank of the screw is supposed to thread into. Normally, the drill-bit is SUPPOSED to make a hole that is the minor diameter of the screw or slightly smaller. In the case of a #12 screw, that would be about 3.5mm. That allows the major diameter (the threads) to bite into the sheet metal and hold. The major diameter of a #12 screw is about 5.3mm with each thread being about 0.9mm tall. The drill-tip on the screws that were shipped measured 4.7mm which means I will only get a fraction of the thread-engagement the screw was intended to provide.

While the screws do what they should, which is self tap a hole and threads, they are not stainless steel. After installing decking with these I noticed after the first rain that they showed signs of rusting. Sure enough, they are magnetic! Stainless steal is not magnetic. Should have tested them right from the get-go. These are merely poorly coated steal screws.

Screws are made from too soft metal. Drill tip snaps off or deforms.
