Do these tablets go out of date? I have some from 2018 and the water isn't changing colour at all.

The water should change from either red(hard) or green ( soft). So they are probably out of date.

how much water do I add per tablet please?

You should have an instruction leaflet with the pack,but this link may help (If it works). https://www.palintest.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Tab.10-Hardness-Yes.No_.pdf Otherwise: Add two tablets to 50ml of water,shake container until dissolved -Green indicates a hardness of 8mg/l This is suitable for normal domestic applications. Add one tablet to 50ml of water if green indicates a hardness less than 4mg/l (Very soft). Add one tablet to 10ml of water if green indicates a hardness of <20 mg/l this hardness may be suitable for your application. A clear container with a capacity of (say) 100ml would be ideal for these tests,but needs to be clean and dry between tests. Robert.
