My husband's dentist recommends the Y-brush for my husband with dementia because he was not getting his teeth clean enough and we were having recurring high dental repair bills for his care. Found that the sides of my teeth got brushed -- but not the biting surface and not the gumline. Needed to use a standard brush to get the missed areas.

A similar item made of silicone bristles was used previously to discovering the Y-brush with nylon bristles that actually CLEAN. I highly recommend this product, especially for the dental hygiene of an "invalid" patient. Without this Y-brush, brushing would be impossible in our situation.
