I lived it, and it still makes me laugh!
Before I begin let me say that I’ve known Gayne for more than twenty years, have hunted with him for just as long, and appear in a few chapters in this book. And now let me say that I would buy this book even if I wasn’t in it or even if I didn’t know him. Gayne was a writer long before I met him and a great one at that. His ability to tell a story has had him living a life that most of us can only dream of but thanks to his ability to tell a story we can all share in it.This is one funny book and one that I’ve bought for coworkers and other friends. Even if you have not had the chance to hunt around the world like Gayne, you will still relate the hunting experiences. I’d highly recommend it.

Awesome book!!!
I absolutely loved this book. My dad was a hunter and this book reminded me of all the hunting stories he used to tell me as a kid, most of which had a great deal of humor in them. Maybe (I knew how to pronounce it -"gain") is a wonderful writer. His book was exciting and humorous. Anyone who loves outdoor hunting stories to far-off places (and also stateside places) should read this book. It's a fast paced easy read. I plan on buying several copies and giving them as gifts.

Interesting
Review: And Monkeys Threw Crap At Me by Gayne Young. This is a fast pace and witty story. The book is full of adventures and misadventures involving hunting. This is not the type of book I would make a habit of reading. Someone gave it to me a long time ago and I’m glad I kept it because it is of use to me now. The book was very entertaining and educational. I have read plenty of books about safari’s and really enjoyed them but most of this book was also on a safari with some wit, spunk and details within the pages.I thought the writing was good and I don’t think the author had left any details out right down to the monkeys throwing their feces’ at most of the members on the safari more than just once. There were plenty of events and adventure throughout the book. Like I said I enjoyed the book but the details of killing wild animals touched my heart a little. The men in the group sometimes would be humorous about the beast at large and when they brought one down it was just a trophy on their list of animals they set out to kill. They actually had their own list and one day at a time they would hunt for a certain animal. This sport still goes on today and women are now joining theses safaris. My type of safari adventure would be just to go out and see these animals in their own habitant and take pictures. There were a few pictures in the book with different people standing next to their animal they brought down. I am an open-minded person but I have a heart. I read the book in stride because there were some good information that I was interested in reading. Once the safari ended in Africa most of the group came back to Texas US where they also have game hunting of that sort. The meat always went to those in need or who would eat that type of meat, the trophy’s were usually horns, teeth, or hoof and the skins they had processed and made into purses, bags, shoes and gloves for their wife or lady friend bake home.I have six brothers so I try to stay open-minded but I don’t believe they would ever join a safari group to hunt big animals. They are all in US and they do like hunting but only small game, a permit and a heart….

Really enjoying this read -- FUNNY!
I really am enjoying this book, I have not yet finished, but so far LOVE IT!To the gentleman who got mad after first chapter and decided he didn't want to go to Africa because of this... get thicker skin, or don't go, because Africa is a WHOLE different world. (Although I would have had some words with the PH over some of those things, such as leaving me at a bar) You must understand, it is a different world and culture. Isn't that why you want to go anyways, or is it just for the different, fancy animals?A large part of why I travel to hunt is to experience all of the different cultures and learn from them!

It's funny cuz the monkeys threw crap at him - not me
Full disclosure - I know Gayne and am mentioned in the chapter where Hillary Hemingway called to chew his butt about some article he wrote.Despite his giving me such a small part in the book - and none of his royalties - I thought this was one heck'uva a read.High adventure, great hunting, and Gayne getting the shaft in almost every place he visits. What more could ya' want?I highly recommend this book. Great fun
