A wonderful read, with lots of fun for the kids
This one is right in the middle of the Usborne First Reader series. As such it is at that point in the progression where the kid is starting to read more on their own without the adult guiding so much. This is a fun little book about a little froggy (IIRC) that goes for a walk in the deep dark woods, and gets lost, because he didn't listen to warnings. It's a fun read, and the kids, with help, can learn some wonderful new words, and enjoy reading a book by themselves, possibly for the first time...A great series!

excellent story for young children with beautiful illustrations
This is a very good story for children who are starting to read, probably about 4 or 5 years old. The text is very simple, consisting mainly of a few speech bubbles, which are sometimes made to rhyme quite playfully. It is about two young frogs who go out into the woods at night, get scared, but save an owl who has got trapped under a falling tree. The illustrations are quite superb, with marvellous tones in the night-time woods and beautiful eyes on both frogs and also the pale blue-grey owl, who is a fantastic visual creation. At the end there are some comprehension questions of a true or false type, and matching words and speech bubbles, with repeat illustrations to remind young readers, plus some indications as to how to get the most out of it. The format is like a large Ladybird book, but with sturdier boards.
