Amazon transaction was good but very disappointed in this book
Amazon transaction was good but very disappointed in this book. I have loved this author and read almost all her books. This was the last in a series, very short paperback, not a good value for the money, and just left me hanging,.with no resolutions for most of the characters. I felt like the author got tired of writing the book and decided to abruptly end the book without finishing it.

Last in the series?
I didn’t enjoy this last book because it seemed more contrived than the first three, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It seems like the autho is weaving in fairy tales and myths into historical reality. I am also disappointed that the series just stopped. What happens to the characters from here? There is much left to tell and I do hope the author finishes the tale. Left hanging...

Interesting plot twist. Unlike any of Ms Gregory's other works
I have waited for four years for this book to be published. I am personally a little disappointed with the plot of the book. I am sure that most people will be thrilled until the end of the story. What Ms Gregory chose to be a mysterious plot twist is something I already knew about from reading European myths as a child. I am looking forward to the next book. I just hope it doesn't take as long to be published.

Am I The Only One Who Noticed This?!?
I've actually only begun this 4th book today. What I'm having a terrible time getting past is that book 3 took place in the year 1454. Book 4 starts off seemingly only weeks after Book 3 ended, yet the year is 1461. There is NO WAY 7 years have passed since the previous book! How could such an error be made? Someone help me understand this... Perhaps it will become more clear as I actually read the book?

Boring and Silly
I LOVED the first 3 books in this series, but this one is bad. I can barely get through it. It is exceedingly B.O.R.I.N.G, and the "dancing sickness" is stupid and hard to believe. Also, the writing and story seem much more childish than in the preceding books.

good characters, short read
I'm usually a fan of Phillipa Gregory, but this series was not my favorite. The characters are interesting, but the story lacks depth. But, it's good for a quick read.

easy and exciting read
easy and exciting read..great story..i've loved the way this author writes...though the 3 volume paperback book is really awkward to hold .probably would be better in 3 separate books but i still reccomend it..

I'm tired of the series.
I liked the series until I got to this new novel. I guess I'm tired of it. No more for me.

Captivating
Having read and enjoyed the previous three books, I was excited to read this fourth addition to the 'Order Of Darkness' series. Very good, though a bit short, it follows on nicely from the events of 'Fool's Gold'. Nice to return to Luca, Frieze, Isolde and Ishraq's exciting journey through Medieval Italy. Without spoiling the story, I have to say there is one particular part, halfway through, concerning two of the main characters that is.....rather surprising, let's say!!! Quite an unexpected situation occurs - unexpected for myself at least, not sure how other readers will react!Besides this, again a very enjoyable read from the superb Philippa Gregory!!!Brilliant stories

Not enough pages
Only 304 pages of story which although it was good I felt a bit cheated at the end as if this was only the first part. It felt as if Philippa Gregory had got fed up and just abruptly ended or decided that she could get another book out of the on going situation. It felt like a novelet. I've given three stars because of this not because the story wasn't good but because of shortness of story. Disappointing !

After books 1-3, book 4 is a bit disappointing
I have read all four books in this series back-to-back. This one was unsatisfying compared to the others. I also read it in one sitting, it is rather short. The storyline of books 1-3 were good, but book 4 seemed to lose it's way. Several characters were rather two dimensional, and the main characters seemed to "run out of steam". Half way through the book it was almost as if Ms Gregory got bored and just wanted to finish writing as quickly as possible. It was not a bad book, I enjoyed parts, but at the end I just thought "is that it?", it felt as if there should have been more to it.I am glad that I read it, but I just don't think that it is up to expected standards.

Where is the ending to this story?
Having really enjoyed reading the first three books, I was expecting this book to conclude the story of the five travellers, but it seemed to end in mid air, without anyone reaching their destination or concluding their mission. Surely there must be another book to come in this series!

Lost momentum
The Order of Darkness books 1 to 3 had a wide scope, being a kind of quest/travel narrative, and had some very interesting historic details. I was eager to read this 4th part but felt that it lost momentum and direction. By the end it felt as if it had a mission to instruct which (though laudable) became tedious and it seemed to have lost sight of the origional intention. I was disappointed after the engaging start of the adventure.
