Good performance, but baffling battery choice
As another reviewer has noted, it seems dumb to design a probe like this without a rechargeable power source, and it's absolutely incomprehensible that they ship it with a standard carbon-zinc battery. The first time I installed the battery and powered up the probe, it IMMEDIATELY gave a low-battery indication. This didn't appear during subsequent uses, but it doesn't give me much confidence in the battery or the internal terminals.I did get a good, clean signal out of the probe. As a Hall-effect probe, it's good for both AC and DC current measurements, although it's subject to a varying DC offset from ambient magnetic fields. You'll want to re-zero it each time for precise measurements that include a DC offset.Recommended as long as you're willing to deal with 9V batteries, and as long as you don't count on the one that's included.

Handy tool.
It's quite handy to be able to see a current spike on an oscilloscope screen rather than as a set of numbers on a multimeter that might have a tendency to be jumping about randomly. With this, I can see the current and know exactly how much is flowing, and what the status of that flow is, whether it's smooth or if there is unexpected noise in the line. These are things you simply can't discern with a multimeter OR a clamp-on multimeter / ammeter. Only an oscilloscope can show you that actual wave in real time. This is an otherwise nice unit, but it's unfortunately powered by a 9 volt battery rather than a nice LiPo battery I can recharge. And to add insult in injury, they don't even provide an alkaline battery with this, but a zinc carbon "heavy duty" battery. Sheesh, a 10 cent battery for a $200 meter. I mean, ok, I guess. Personally, I'd rather have seen "batteries not included" than a battery that cheap.Overall, I like the meter, and it's definitely a handy tool to have for my scopes. But I can't help wonder why it isn't rechargeable...sigh. 4 stars, and definitely a recommended tool to have if you use oscilloscopes on a regular basis.
