Confusing but Compelling
This was the first Marvel comic I've read in two years – and the first contemporary Marvel comic I've picked up in over a decade. I stopped collecting due to the relentless wave of wallet-draining “events,” constant relaunches, and exhausting crossovers that pushed me away. But curiosity about the new Ultimate Universe, promising something fresh and distinct, brought me back. Having been away for so long, and never having read the original Ultimate line, I found parts of this story confusing. Still, considering that over-the-top, convoluted events were exactly what drove me away from Marvel in the first place, I was surprised by how thoughtful this series was. It explores heavy themes like authoritarianism, the philosophical dangers of utopian thinking, and the idea that humanity might need a kind of manufactured conflict or illusion (reminiscent of 'Nineteen Eighty-Four') just to feel purpose in a world without chaos. Ironically, a series like this would’ve once been bloated into a dozen unnecessary tie-ins. Here, it’s contained in a tight four-issue miniseries. That said, it almost swings too far the other way – some elements felt rushed and underexplained. With the richness of the themes being explored, I think an extra issue or two could’ve helped the story breathe. Overall, despite its flaws, I enjoyed 'Ultimate Invasion'. It’s a cerebral, bold re-entry point for someone like me, and I’m genuinely excited to see where Hickman takes the new Ultimate Universe next. After a long time away, it feels good to be back.

How on earth do you make The Ultimates boring?!
I could barely make it to the end of this book, it’s so boring. All the good characters from the original Ultimates are gone, replaced with far less interesting alternative versions. I didn’t care about anything that was happening, much of it felt like giant leaps of logic, and frankly I was relieved when it was over. It gets a second star because the artwork is nice, but that’s all I can bear to give it.

"Invasion"? Sure...
I confess to being somewhat baffled by this one. It felt - and this likely was the case - that essential information was missing, probably present in some peripheral series. As is, this is a deeply unsatsifying read. It sort of plods along, then sort of... ends. A satisfactory conclusion would have been a lot to hope for considering most of it barely makes sense along the way. Bryan Hitch's art is competent but doesn't get anywhere near the heights of Ultimates 1 and 2. Hugely disappointing. Avoid.

I very much feel like this stands on its own as a phenomenal new take on a Ultimate Marvel Universe! That being said, knowing this is what catapaults the rest of the much hailed new Ultimate comics reveals how marvelous of a starting point this really is! The Maker is as scary as every writer has impressively kept him! The new character angles feel nuanced and playful off their classic counterparts! There are high level concepts that haunted me the whole time I read it and found myself sharing to non-comic readers who were also taken aback from them. Additionally the more learned you are on Marvel, the more you will be consistently rewarded in this book!

Watching Marvel comics become stale and outdone over the last 10 years sucked. They really needed something refreshing, and while this may not be the reboot we all want, it's the next best thing.

I was really looking forward to read this and It's a great story but unfortunately it didn't came in the best shape due of the paper bag Amazon use. I'll keep it, but kinda disappointed with the damaged corner on my book

To be honest, I’ve avoided reading most anything from Marvel since the 1980s, because too many of the stories were getting stupid and ignoring decades of canon so that some new writer could indulge their own bad ideas. And now, over a quarter-century later, I don’t even understand what’s going on anymore, and the plotlines seem to be getting more and more outlandish. In the midst of all that, I saw a few panels from this series and they caught my eye, and so I picked this up when it was released. It turns out that some origin material that would’ve helped put everything into context was not included in this collection, but nevertheless, I got the basic idea: an evil alternate-universe Reed Richards is tinkering with the world of the universe that these stories are set in (whatever universe that may be) and various parties are trying to stop him. I just just treated it as an alternate-universe story, and as such I enjoyed it. There were a lot of interesting ideas, and dialogue to match. The artwork was generally excellent as well.
