OtterBox iPhone 15 Pro MAX (Only) Commuter Series Case - Black, Slim & Tough, Pocket-Friendly, with Port Protection

Second time buying this exact same item. It lasted me just under two years before it started cracking to a point where I needed to replace it. The material is sturdy, durable, and has completely protected my iPhone from any scratches, cracks, or dings. It is very good quality, a good value for your money, and I like the plain black look.

I purchased this Otterbox Commuter Series case, in black, for an iPhone 15 Pro Max. It fits the phone perfectly, providing some extra protection with the beveling around the front screen and rear camera lenses. I like that this is a two-piece case - there's a softer part that goes on the back of the phone first and then a harder "shell" that goes over the first part - it seems like this is more substantial than some of the one-piece options. The case covers the phone buttons, which I like, to keep "gunk" from collecting around the buttons, and they are all working just fine. There's also a "flap" to cover the port at the bottom of the phone, providing similar protection. With the bottom port "flap" open, the USB-C cord that came with the phone, as well as a Belkin cord I purchased separately, plug in with no problem. As for mag-safe charging, I AM able to charge my phone on a mag-safe charger in this case, BUT it does not "snap" to the charger, so if the phone gets bumped it will move out of position and stop charging. Overall I am very happy with this case.

The commuter case for the iPhone 15 Pro MAX fits well, and does a very good job of protecting the phone. There is a raised rim along the face of the phone so that the screen is safe if you set the phone down on it's face on a table or something. From the back, it does a good job of protecting the camera and lenses with a rim that is just slightly extended past the glass. The rubber insert the phone sits in fits the phone great, and then is held in place by the plastic back cover. It is snug and not inconvenient or loose provided you don't pull the sides apart with your fingers like some ding dongs do to find something to complain about. This is also completely adequate protection provided the phone is laying on flat surfaces. Anything that would be irregularly shaped or if you drop it on a something pointy, it's not gonna help much. But without going overboard with some insanely bulky case, it is fantastic every-day protection. If you use magsafe accessories, this isn't the right case for you. Good news, they have a MagSafe version of this case. Bad news, it's not on Amazon that I've seen so far at the time of writing this and needs to be purchased elsewhere. While they have a variant of this case available with this functionality, it should just be standard on all of their cases for the last few generations of iPhones. As this product listing is not advertised towards magsafe accessory users, this isn't weighted in the scoring of the review. This is a great case if you don't use magsafe accessories. Nothing really bad I can say about what it does and what it's for.

I chose 4 because compared to other cases this one does very well! Also I’ve had this case since June of 2024, it’s currently November 2025 and as a whole it does great! I plan on having it until I get a new phone because the problems aren’t significant enough to ever replace it and honestly if I get a new phone, I’d get another Otterbox. But basing my review of what Otterbox used to be versus my experience with their brand now Otterbox quality has definitely gone down. If you’re like me and wanting this case because of their reputation of being super protective, I would say to some extent it is. Since new iPhones have glass backs, this is well protected in the case. However, I always have a tempered glass screen protectors and I’ve broken a few of those while using this case. If I hadn’t had them though I’m sure my screen would’ve broken, and that goes for my back camera screen protector too, it’s broken once as well. Kind of sketchy. Plus the case breaks easily. A few of my friends happen to have the same case and the consensus is that the charging spot breaks first, then corners crack next. Compared to other cases it feel durable and I don’t have to worry so much about my entire phone breaking, but you do have to use it with a little caution. I think because the phone easily pops out, even when taking it in and out of your pocket the screen can be exposed without you knowing and therefore can break easily. Plus if it falls the phone may pop out too.. All this to say, it feels durable, I think it’s kind of worth your money, the color wears a little but all cases do.. but expect this to break in at least one area.. but despite the breaking it still works well.. you CANNOT use a magnet with this and while it’s not difficult to take on and off, it’s just kind of annoying because you have to put it on in two steps so if you were to want to use a magnet while driving you’d have to do this every time.

I've always splurged on the Defender model of the Otterbox cases; I have a propensity to drop my phone or it falls out of my pocket at not an insignificant height. I'm 5'11", so easily a 4.5ft drop. iPhones are expensive!!! And I wanted the best protection. The only problem is the Defender model is a contraption in and of itself. It's a great product; I was just looking for something simpler and I decided to try the Commuter case. The commuter case fits well and does a very good job of protecting the phone from drops and dings. There is a raised edge on the front and back (around the camera), which don't look as substantial as the Defender and hard to see in the photos; but it is enough of a rim to completely protect the face and camera. I always put a screen protector on my phone, but the Commuter keeps the face of the phone and the camera off flat surfaces. There is a rubber insert with the Commuter case that the phone sits in which is then held in place by the plastic back cover. It is snug fit and feels secure and protected with out the complexity and bulkiness of the Defender case. I don't use Magsafe branded accessories, but I have an off-brand wireless charging station that I can charge my iPhone with the case on. Now, it won't charge standing upright, but if you set it on the charger in a portrait position it charges just fine. This is a very YMMV, but it isn't marketed as MagSafe, so it was just an extra bonus for me the one day I forgot to bring my charger to work. Overall, I consider this to be a great case with sufficient protection with out the bulk, complexity and price of the Defender model that happens to work with wireless charging (for me).

My husband works in construction so Otterbox cases are all we buy him. They have always kept his phone safe. Might seem expensive to other cases, but they are well worth the money.

Color is very nice and the military grade protection is there. However i just dont understand why IT IS NOT MAGSAFE. Yes you can lay it down on a wireless charger but dont expect it to stick on magsafe accessories. For such a nice case this is a downer.
