Was wondering if the product is made with harsh chemicals as I wanted to use it on the inside of my suede sandles

Did not use on suede. Worked great on a high end backpacking jacket 10+ years old that needed updating for the years and wear.

Can I use this on velveteen boots?

I have used this product for many years and while I've never used it on velveteen boots I have used it on all types of leather, suede, nylon, gore-tex, etc without any problems.  I keep ordering more every time I run out so that should give you some idea on my opinion.  ;)  Specifically, I wouldn't hesitate to use it on velveteen and it is an excellent waterproofer. Would this be effective at adding some shower proofing to a nylon/polyester Osprey day pack?

So, I water proof my leather things so they will not stain. I would imagin that this will water proof your day pack, too. It does not attract dirt like some waterproofing products do. It works very well though you might have to do a few coats to water proof it really good. I have a leather coat and a hat that are completely water proof and I used this stuff. Do a small hidden area on your pack and see. Good luck
