Better than the Pearson one!
This book explains how to do a topic more than the Pearson. However I am still relying on youtube videos to help, but this is good to get an understand on what you will be tested on.

The product is very good quality with the exception of the online support.
I have used this as maths tutor. The content is well organised and appropriate although the online addition which comes with the product proved inaccessible after initial registration.

Different approach to competitors revision guides
This BBC Bitesize™ revision guide covers the GCSE Higher exams and takes a different approach to competitors in the field. This highly colourful book starts not with subjects but with an overview of the syllabus, explaining the proportion of marks each of the major topics is allocated via a pie chart and the three written papers that will be undertaken, the first without the aid of a calculator. It then goes on to outline the problem-solving skills that will be required in the exam and gives general advice for tackling both revision and the exams. GCSE Higher Maths features three assessment objectives: "Use and apply standard techniques", "Reason, interpret and communicate mathematically", and "Solve problems within mathematics and in other contexts". Each of these get their own introductory page explaining what those objectives mean in plain English whilst giving examples to illustrate the objective. I like these introductory sections as they give a top-down view of the exam, getting the student into the exam mindset before tackling the subjects. This 126 page book is rammed full of information. With many subjects to tackle each is limited to just a page, although it's probably more accurate to state that subjects are built up like building blocks - basic information is imparted before the more complex aspects of a topic are dealt with separately on a further page. Those highly colour-coded pages introduce the basic facts or rules governing a subject before moving on to a worked example. On some pages there is a 'tips' section headed "Problem solving" before the key facts are summarised in a 'Checklist' section and an exam style practice question gives the student opportunity to have a go for themselves. What I like about the exam questions is they clearly indicate what grade GCSE will be gained for answering correctly. I also like that this section features a tick box so that students can record they have attempted the question - useful if a particular topic is bypassed and the subjects are tackled out of order. The bottom of each page also features a further set of tick boxes allowing the student to record their level of understanding. The boxes are: "Made a start", "Feeling confident", and "Exam ready". I like this feature as it allows tapering of revision as the exam approaches, with students able to concentrate on the subjects they find thornier to grasp. The font used throughout and the colour-coding are easy to read, with bold used where required. Diagrams are always clear when used, often with memory aids pointing to particular features located in yellow 'tips' boxes that clearly stand out and allow rapid assimilation of key facts. There is an answers section at the back of the book which quickly allow identification of the page number the relevant question is found on. For students who prefer to work online there is a download access code in the inside front cover. This is also a useful facility for teachers who may wish to use this material in lessons. There's also a QR code shown in the corner of each page which takes you straight to the electronic version of the page which is a nice (and novel) feature. This BBC book takes a quite different approach to other major revision guide providers. Sometimes I felt that the limit of a single page per subject, even though different aspects of a subject are sometimes developed over subsequent pages was a little too restrictive. I would have additionally liked a section featuring actual past exam papers to give the student a practice run at an exam. It would also have been useful if each subject had an approximate time indicated to take in the subject. However, I do like the colour-coding which once the student gets used to the format will allow quick assimilation of a subject or 'cherry-picking' of relevant facts where the student is perhaps more comfortable with a subject thanks to their studies at school or college. I also like the sheer heft of the knowledge contained in this book, which covers a big subject clearly, though sometimes access to more practice questions would be advantageous.

BBC Bitesize Edexcel GCSE Maths Higher Revision Guide
This is a large revision guide, with 128 pages and is designed for the Pearson Edexcel Higher Maths GCSE, which my son will be taking next year. It is linked to BBC Bitesize and I must admit this is not our first choice of online maths websites (Mr Hegarty would probably be my ‘go to’ site for maths) we do use BBC Bitesize and I was willing to give this a try. Each page has a QR code, which you can scan to visit the BBC Bitesize website, for resources. However, even if you chose not to use the links, or the online edition, this does work well as a workbook. This has lots of useful information on the maths GCSE paper (just make sure your child is taking the Edexcel Higher curriculum) and there is also lots of useful advice. Topics have lots of worked examples and questions, although you will need an exercise book to answer them in. This is more a revision guide than a workbook and you can tick off the topics as you work your way through them. A good, clearly laid out book, which will give clear revision for all the topics covered and easy to find online resources to help if you are stuck.

A great BBC Bitesize for Maths with a different but good approach.
This BBC Bitesize is somewhat different. It takes a different approach one that I like. Let me explain. It gives you the way to solving a problem and what is required by the exam board. It also suggests how to revise. The BBC Bitesize book also defines the structure of the book and what is going to help you with. There are three exams for written Maths papers and this BBC Bitesize covers what is required in each. There are worked examples throughout the BBC Bitesize and also explaining in words the task ahead. The illustrations help to make the student get a better understanding of the problem/topic.A great BBC Bitesize with a different but good approach.

Excellent Revision Guide from the BBC.
Product arrived in good condition, consists of a thick 127 page A4 book with semi hard cardboard cover. This covers the new syllabus for all grades 1-9The guide is split into the 7 sections that are covered in the Maths GCSE Higher. On top of that, there's some coverage on "how to use the guide", Exam Strategies and Assessment Objectives. At the back are all the answers. Each topic is easily located with clear headings and is very well laid out. There are "worked examples" and exam style question on all the topics covered. The exam style questions give an idea as to how Mark's are allocated. Different areas are laid out in different colours containing clearly written explanations. This is an extremely easy to use Revision guide, everything is laid out clearly and explained well. My daughters are very pleased to have this resource available to them, as they're doing Maths Higher. I would recommend this book to anyone studying GCSE Mathematics Higher.
