Undertand SQL In Hours -- Build Your Own SQL Program In Less Than A Day!
I've wanted to learn the basics of SQL programming for years. I've understood the "concepts" because of my job. However, my first try with actually learning to program was with a 1000 page book that now serves as a foot rest under my desk. It assumed I already knew the basics and frankly scared the heck out of me.Os Swift's book is the perfect solution! It is for beginners and starts with the basic steps ... with easy to understand explanations. I actually followed along and built my first database in hours! Talk about delighted.I actually got through the book in less than a day ... and have followed up with Swift's Java Programming book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the basics along with the ability to build a simple database within hours.

There is Literally No JavaScript in this Book o_O
I am a SQL expert with limited JavaScript experience. I bought this book because I thought it would be worth $10 to have a quick primer and/or a few exercises on using JavaScript to connect to SQL. But... Although this is titled "SQL Programming: Java Script and Coding Programming Guide", there is literally no JavaScript in it. None. Zero. This is a SQL book, with a bit of PHP and Perl. Actually, just enough PHP that if you swapped "JavaScript" for "PHP" in the title, I would have little to complain about. It's very basic and centered on MySQL (vs. Microsoft's TSQL, etc.). For someone purely interested in a basic overview of MySQL, it is probably fine. There are no projects or exercises, but it describes and gives examples of most SQL syntax. So two stars for that.On quality of writing, there is not much substantial to complain about... There are a few just sort-of wrong statements. In the front the author states (to paraphrase) that one of the reasons different vendor's SQL is different is that it is just too big and complex for any single product to cover it all. This is just silly and calls into question the editorial process. But the bulk of the book is just stating facts about SQL syntax, so it works for that.

Learn The Basics Of SQL
When I know NOTHING about a topic I look one of two places for a book; guide for kids and books with the word “Basics” in the title. The reason for this? Most beginner guides on any topic that are available will BURY you in data and details you don’t need and aren’t ready to use. So why not go for the basics first, so you can understand the more in depth books? Now SQL – Structured Query Language - is an important part of programing for databases and search functions. This book will help you understand key concepts and essential information so that you can start to tackle learning the programming requirements. A great starter for the beginner.

Perhaps not for the novice
Shows syntax for sql statemets early on without explanation - for example [,XXXX].[] but no indication if that comma before the XXXX is a typo or actually indicates something. Probably not a book for beginners. Free loan for Primecustomers so I just moved on to the next one.

Great reference book for a newbie who wants to learn SQL.
There are so many other SQL books out there making it hard to stay awake, this book is refreshingly balanced with good explanations for a beginner like me. This guide will teach all you need to know about the basics of SQL. Each chapter gives examples and screen shots for you to follow the steps and create your own searchable database. This book has lots of good information and easy to follow tutorials.

The only mention of Javascript is in the title.
This book is aimed at absolute beginner in SQL, it starts with very basic syntax. At half point in the book it gets to PHP functions. To my surprise there is no reference to Javascript anywhere in the book other than the title. The author should have named the book "Programming: SQL: Programming Guide: PHP and Coding". Since I was looking for Javascript use in SQL for a project I am about to start I was disappointed.Ali Julia review
