David Mitchell and Robert Webb star as ambassadors based in the British embassy of the fictional Asian country Tazbekistan in this BBC comedy miniseries. The programme follows the daily lives of ambassador Davis (Mitchell) and his deputy Tilly (Webb) in their roles in the Tazbekistan embassy. But as they carry out their duties, the duo constantly find themselves in trouble with the natives including when Davis accidentally kills an ibex, the country's national animal, and when their Best of British festival fails to inspire the locals. The duo also encounter issues when they are asked to house blind dissident Amil Zarifi (Krystian Godlewski) and after a potential Tazbek Spring erupts during the president's platinum jubilee celebrations. The episodes are: 'The Rabbit Never Escapes', 'The Prince's Trousers' and 'The Tazbek Spring'.

Enjoyable and interesting.
Really enjoyed this series and wish there were more. Nice to see David Mitchell in a straight role; Tom Hollander adds his unique presence to one episode, in which he insists on staying at the Four Seasons, despite there being a lack of such amenities in the country. Set in a mythical 'Stan', The Ambassadors is well acted and entertaining, much as you might expect from the cast and crew. There are grimmer hints of life in a dictatorship and plausible plots that might almost have been taken from real life, while playing into Western stereotypes of such countries.

A thought provoking intelligent drama with high comedy moments.
One of the best series of the last 10 years-topical, relevant, funny, dramatic, clever, high production values. Only three episodes produced unfortunately wish there were more. Not sure you could class this as a comedy as such as it’s not laugh a minute but the comedy is there along with genuine drama and suspense. We really need another series of this as it’s up there with the greatest.

Excellent
A very clever satire on diplomatic life, with fine acting and wonderful stereotypes of Central Asian officials.A dark strain suffuses the comedy. What a pity there was no second series.Strongly recommended.

very funny, and with more than a little truth in ...
I think it is a shame this series didn't get more promotion by the BBC. I think it's a little gem, very funny, and with more than a little truth in the drama side of it. I'll bet our foreign embassy's deal with lots of stuff like this all the time. What a cracking little series.

Too true
Having worked for the Foreign Office for almost 40 years this has many elements that make it painful. I, and my partner, laughed our heads off. It is too close to the truth in many ways.I can thoroughly recommend this disc.

Great series, very funny, though be warned, bits have been cut out.
I already have this series on hard drive that I recorded directly from the TV when the series was first shown. However, having bought the DVD and just watched it, I see that there are various bits missing. WHY? What a shame. Apart from that, this series is absolutely brilliant, so funny.

Worth every penny
I love this kind of understated comedy drama, yes its not believable so it doesn't work as a drama and yes there isn't a laugh on every line. But this is cleverly written and delivered by all concerned. Its sad that the BBC aren't going to do anymore but I think this will increase its cult status. This role was made for David Mitchell with his ability to look scared, baffled and still deliver a cutting line of sarcasm all at the same time.
