These work because they expose multiple streams of water to the air, resulting in evaporation, which is what cools the water. Same principal as a swamp cooler. The drier the air, the better they work, night or day. In heavy humidity, they don’t work well, again, night or day. I live in north Texas, and I find they work best when we get into the hundreds because there’s typically less humidity then. **Q: I assembled incorrectly.
