Worked great
Has a nice smooth interior surface in the mortar make it easy to clean out when you're done. Worked great for breaking down solids into powder as expected.

great mortar and pestle
I bought this to grind up glucosamine pills to add to my dogs food. It works really well. It is beautifully made with the inside portion of the bowl (mortar) and the bottom of the pestle being unglazed for easier grinding. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a mortar and pestle to grind pills or small quantities of dry materials. I feel compelled to comment on some of the less favorable reviews of this product. This is NOT a mortar and pestle that is suitable for doing large wet jobs. It is a great size for grinding pills and other dry substances to a powder. That is what it is designed to do and it does it well. One reviewer complained about the rough surface holding onto some of the ground powder. It does do that and I GENTLY tap the inside of the bowl with the pestle to knock the powder out of the bottom of the bowl. I wash (by hand) both the mortar and the pestle to get them 100 percent clean. This is the type of mortar and pestle used in compounding pharmacies and chemistry labs. It is not necessarily the best choice for kitchen jobs. I would advise people looking for a mortar and pestle to consider what they want to be able to do with it, and then to do a bit of research to find one suited to their needs.

Crushes
I bought this looking for something to crush my cat's antacid pill when he throws up and his stomach is upset. I had one like this back years ago but lost it in a move, so had to return to the drawing board to compare models. Turns out there are a ton of options to consider when looking for a mortar and pestle - size and surface, material, washability, etc. For tiny cat pills, occasionally, this was the best option for the budget. It is small and can sit unobtrusively on the countertop until I need it. It washes up quickly, and while some people complain that this will ultimately perhaps grind in some ceramic components, I doubt it will do that enough to be a health hazard. And in the meantime, I can use it to crush the occasional dried herb for cooking. Spent way too long looking at options to come back to this same model which was just fine to begin with, if I hadn't lost the original. Figures.

Good for price.
This is one of the cheaper mortar and pestles on amazon.... and I guess i get what i paid for. it works fine, but there are a few minor cosmetic imperfections... primarily on the inside of the bowl itself. there is a slight bump or something, that makes it so it isnt completely smooth. not too bad, after a few uses im pretty sure its mostly filed down anyway.

Perfect for me!
Forgive the crappy background and other orders in the sides of the images.... This is a little smaller than expected but thats my fault bc i dont usually think in mm measurements and didnt have a clear mental image before ordering lol. The bottom of the mortar is unfinished, as is the bottom of the pestle. This is good for my purposes but if you're looking for something to get finer texture product then go elsewhere. I loooove that there is a little dip in the one corner...its sublte unlike those with the more exaggerated lip for pouring, and the whole thing is comfortable to hold firmly while using. Definitely would buy again and recommend to anyone who wants to grind herbs like clove or who cant swallow pills and must make powders.

Great item for spice grinding...
Sometimes nothing else will do but a mortar and pestle to grind spices; perfect size and good quality for the use I put it to. Pestle is sturdy but accidentally got dropped and broken after receiving; glued back together with Superglue acrylic and good as new! (Good quality porcelain). Recommend this item

No Pestle !!!
When I ordered this product , I thought that I was ordering a mortar AND pestle . but when I received my package today I was to find out that there was only a mortar. I have gone back through the item page and I still see no where saying that this is just a mortar , and even the item's name say's "Mortar and Pestle" . Overall the mortar is as expected but it stain's easy and is hard to clean so I give this product a 1.

Depens on what you use it for
I bought this product to make a small batch of pesto. I was told when you grind basil the flavor is much better. I almost killed myself making it. You probably should only buy this product if you are looking for crushing some small grains, herbs, pills, etc. PROS: Non Porous Material (did slightly stain from basil leaves) Mortar and Pestle have ruff surfaces for grinding Simple Classic Look CONS: Pestle is small and hard to hold for a long period of time Fragile (it dropped about one foot from my hands to the Formica counter and it shattered) Bowl is VERY small Basically for basic needs like herb and pill crushing, this should be fine. If you are looking to use it for long periods of time or crush large quantities of materials - look elsewhere.

When I ordered this item, I was a bit afraid that porcelain wouldn't be as good as ceramic or granite. After using it a few times, I was happy to see it worked out just fine. As an aspiring herbalist, eventually I'll need a bigger one, but for now, I love that I can put 1/4-1/2 of an herb and grind them easily for teas and tinctures.
