I wish architecture would go into this direction in general...
...because it means not only more sustainable buildings, but also - and finally! - some really futuristic ideas put into practice! It really is about 50-70 years since the last visionaries tried to take a look at the future of transportation (flying cars, anyone?) or sci-fi buildings... To my mind, the last bold thinkers were people like Syd Mead or the cover painters of pulp magazines like Virgil Finlay or Ed Emschwiller or all the others. For 40 years now, everything seems to be sooo boring, so uninteresting, so inwards, so un-bold...Those being my rants :) let's talk about Vincent Callebaut. Ever since I saw his Lillypad project online (search for it, and you get the essence of his vibe), I was fascinated and collected his artbooks. The integration of man-made architecture into the environment, thoughts on sustainability, overpopulation, dying resources and the aim towards the sky are common base points for almost every design of his. I wish him not only success, but a lot of followers, who can really - and finally - re-shape modern architecture. If you like this, look out for the massive eVolo Skyscrapers books - they're worth every penny as well! :)
