We’re going through decades of old files and documents, which means a LOT of shredding. The shredders we’re using do not like staples, and my dad has a staple fetish, apparently, which means we were breaking our fingernails pulling the darned things out. I was looking for the ‘jaws’ kind of remover when I saw these; I never knew these existed before, though they’ve been around a while, apparently. We ordered this set, thought we may as well try it out. Lo and behold, it works, really well; both my mom and I are really impressed by how easy it is to remove even old, rusty staples with this style of device. It isn’t always as easy as just sliding under all the way; some of them require a bit of a twist if the packet of paper is really thick. But still—removed, without tearing. I’m thrilled with how much easier this is than ol’ jaws. And considering the reams and reams of stapled documents we’ve been through in the past month, this has gotten a real workout—much more than it might get in normal times. The worst thing about it is that I could lose it easily—maybe I should have ordered in neon colors or something. But the handle is easy to grip and comfortable, the mechanism is simple leverage, and the little blade at the end is the right thickness and shape to get under the staple easily. If I manage to lose all three, I’ll need to order a set of five or something. But if I don’t lose them, I doubt I’ll need to order any more—they are holding up really well under what could fairly be described as adverse conditions, with heavy use!

These are sturdy for being mostly plastic. Removes staples easily, sometimes it’s hard to remove multiples as they don’t stay on the end piece well. Would buy again.

These are amazing if you have never tried one. Easily pop the staples off and they stick to the opener magnetically. How good is THAT? Pretty darn good and with a great price too.

I bought these to replace two others that had disappeared. I really only "needed" one, but having two meant I could always find one...until I could find neither. These are actually better than the ones they replaced. The lost ones had straight handles. The curved handles on these actually make it easier to get the blade of the device as close to horizontal as possible. The blade on these removers is actually narrower than the blade on the lost units. I thought this might be a problem, since the space between prongs on standard staples is wider than the width of the blade on these. In use, though, the narrower blade actually seems to work better than the the wider blades on the older ones, especially if there are only two pieces of paper stapled together. The lost units with the wider blades would actually just rip the staple through two pieces of paper. These actually allow the blade to bend the center of the staples to allow the staple prongs to bend easier to pull the prongs out of the paper, rather than through the paper. I was just living without the lost removers, but I am glad I got these. I will see how long these stick around without getting lost (my problem, not the problem of the product).
