Great DVD drive. Compatible with Windows 11 and GNU/Linux distro out of the box. ExactAudioCopy has full control over this drive very happy.

Would not open. Powered on, device recognized by the computer, but when I pushed eject, just whirring sounds. The rest of it even worked, I was able to manually eject with a paperclip and verify disks were recognized - but if I can't open via the button, it's not worth the price. Returned for refund.

Purchased from Amazon, but I only tried to use it after a couple months after purchase. It is not recognized by the 2021 iMac and therefore I cannot use it. Unfortunately, it is beyond the window I can return to Amazon.

Works well and so portable. I have two computers and great for when I need one on my second computer as computer companies don't add them to computers now as it is an extra charge if you want one.

Reçu en avance et très soigneusement emballé. J'avais été tenté par des soi-disant graveurs à très petits prix. J'en ai commandé 2, pour le même résultat : impossible de graver le moindre DVD, bruit conséquent, perte des DVD vierges devenus illisibles (6 en tout). J'avais été attiré par des commentaires très positifs et des réponses aux questions "rassurantes", mais en y regardant de plus près, je vois qu'il n'y a pas de juste milieu : soit c'est "magnifique" (en français approximatif), soit c'est la catastrophe, et je me joins à ces derniers avis objectifs. J'ai donc visé un peu plus haut, pour ce graveur ASUS qui coûte, bien sûr, 12€ de plus. Je ne le regrette pas. D'abord, en plus de la notice détaillée et de la légèreté du graveur, j'ai reçu un DVD pour installer Nero, avec un numéro de série reconnu. Et à cela s'ajoutent 2 DVD-R d'archivage longue durée. J'ai lu qu'un problème souvent mentionné est qu'il nécessiterait 2 ports USB. Il y a en effet 2 sorties/entrées, l'une pour mon portable (ASUS), l'autre pour l'alimentation. Or, pour ce dernier, il "suffit" de disposer d'une prise de courant avec une sortie USB. On le branche sur secteur et le tour est joué. Vous n'avez donc besoin que d'un seul port USB (mais il aurait été bienvenu de fournir la prise avec tout le reste...). Et donc, me voici avec un graveur impeccable, discret, silencieux et qui m'a permis de créer (enfin) un disque de sauvegarde Windows, ce que les "graveurs" (qui sont surtout des lecteurs) low-cost ne peuvent pas réaliser. Pour un graveur de cette qualité, avec tout ce qui précède, c'est le meilleur QUALITE-prix, et de loin. Je le recommande, si vous ne voulez pas, comme moi, perdre des heures et des DVD pour des produits commentés de façon bizarrement très élogieuse. J'espère que ce commentaire sera accepté, car il pourrait aider pas mal de clients dans mon cas.

I bought this "ASUS SDRW-08U7M-U Ultraslim" as my current 15 year old External DVD Drive has started to randomly refuse blank discs it has always accepted. At first glance it looks nice, its light, looks a bit flimsy, but it's not like I'm going to be tossing it around the place. The discs need to be pressed onto a spindle until they click securely into place (much like a PS1 Console), these are actually better as there's no chance of scratching or damaging a CD. The only downside to this DVD Drive is the included Y Cable, it is only 18 inches in length, perfectly fine if you are using a Laptop. But I am using a desktop PC and I have to use books to prop it up to reach my USB ports. There are 2 USB Connectors, the 2nd provides additional power if needed (my PC only needed me to use the one, some low power laptops may need it, so make sure you have 2 USB ports side by side or within 4 inches of one another). I installed Power2Go 8 from the bundled Software disc as I had previously used a Trial and liked its functionality, its a quick no fuss burning Software but has advanced options if needed. Also I liked the inclusion of 2 Verbatim DVDR ''M-Discs'', will be the only time that I will use these as the DVDR M-Discs are hard to purchase and have little use to me, standard blank DVDs are fine. I have a collection of family photos going back to the 1920's so will use them for that as there supposed to last a lifetime. I ripped a CD and extraction speed was slower than my older drive, but its what it is, but track quality was 100% and that's the main thing. Burning DVDs was quick though and it accepted all the discs, disc verification afterwards gave a 100% pass. My copying and burning was silent enough, all depends on surface you have it on.

Als MacBook Retina Nutzer, hat man einfach gar kein Laufwerk mehr. Ich nutze immer USB-Sticks oder Speicherkarten, aber manchmal kommt man einfach nicht drum herum eine DVD zu brennen oder eben nur zu lesen. Auf der Suche nach einem stylischen und talentierten externen DVD-Brenner, bin ich auf das ASUS Zen Drive 2 gestoßen. Das Laufwerk ist optisch einfach sehr schön gestaltet und passt optimal zum MacBook Design. Es hat eine Metall-Optik und das sieht natürlich immer schöner aus, als langweiliges einfaches Plastik. Damit das Laufwerk nicht einfach nur langweilig auf dem Tisch rum liegt, befindet sich an der Rückseite ein Klappfuß, damit das Laufwerk aufgestellt werden. Natürlich kann man es auch einfach hinlegen, auf der unteren Seite sind Gummifüße verbaut, damit die schöne Optik auch keine Kratzer bekommt. Unterwegs und auf meinem Schreibtisch macht das Asus Zen Drive 2 einen echt guten Eindruck, was natürlich auch an der Bauweise des Gerätes liegt. Etwas mehr als 1,3cm ist es flach. Das Zen Drive 2 ist laut Hersteller kompatibel mit Windows XP, 7, 8, 10 sowie unter Mac ab OS X 10.6 nutzbar. Auf meinem MacBook mit der aktuellen 10.11.5 El Capitan Version läuft das Laufwerk ohne Probleme. Anschließen und fertig: Keine weiteren Treiber notwendig. Wer auf die Betriebssystem eigenen Brennlösungen verzichten möchte, kann die mitgelieferte Software Cyberlink Power2Go 8 Software nutzen. Diese Software unterstützt auch Backup Funktionen, die ich aber aufgrund einer anderen Lösung nicht benutzen musste. Mit dem externen Laufwerk von Asus habe ich mehrere DVDs gebrannt, darunter 3 MP3 DVDs für meinen Vater, so wie zwei Video DVDs. Bei keinem der Brennvorgänge kam es zu Problemen. Sicherheitshalber habe ich die frisch gebrannten Scheiben auch noch bei mir auf der Arbeit am Windows PC ausprobiert - keine Probleme. Die Daten konnten ohne Probleme gelesen werden und auch mein Vater hat sich bisher nicht beschwert. Während des Brennvorgangs blieb das Gerät stets sehr leise und man hat den Brennvorgang akustisch kaum wahrnehmen können. Im Lieferumfang ist die oben erwähnte Software zu finden, das externe Laufwerk selbst und ein USB-Kabel mit zwei Steckern. Warum zwei? An älteren Notebooks kann es vorkommen, dass die Stromversorgung mit einem USB-Port nicht ausreichend ist. Dafür ist der zweite USB-Stecker dann zusätzlich vorhanden, damit der Strom über zwei USB Ports bezogen werden kann. An meinem aktuellen MacBook Pro brauchte ich jedoch stets nur einen Port. Fazit: Schönes, ansprechendes und äußerst leises externes Laufwerk, welches seinen Dienst bisher super erfüllt hat.
