Great switches that are easy to install, look great and have great dimming.
These worked great for my application - dimming undercabinet LED lights. I connected this to a 24V dimmable LED driver (B0CPLLMKHH) that supports triac dimming and fits in a single gang box. The driver was connected to 24V dimmable FCOB LEDs (B091KG5K1Q) that will be in some aluminum channel. No flicker, no noticeable delay and super easy setup. I already have several light switches from Tapo, but these were the first Matter ready ones, so I was surprised when I opened my phone and Google assistant was asking for the number or to scan the QR code. I scan the code, named the device and it was done. Then when I opened Tapo app, it too just wanted me to name the device and location. I will say that the Tapo app handles the dimming better in that as you are dragging the slider the lights dim live whereas in Google, you have to let go of the slider for it to actually send the value to the switch. I also tested the voice command and it worked as expected, so that is great too. The switches come with faceplates that have hidden fastners, which I like, however I don't use them anywhere else in the house, and these switches will get in a multi gang box, so they will end up in the trash, which is a shame. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Heavyweight champ of Matter-over-WiFi switches & dimmers.
Reliable switch, great firmware, app, and customer service support. This is the switch that you would expect from an excellent networking company! Well done Tapo / TP Link! I have approximately 30 of the dimmers and 3 or 4 of the on/off switches running in a Home Assistant-controlled smart home. For those of you with HA - your best bet is to go through HACS and download the Tapo Controller. If you're not using Home Assistant, well...what are you thinking? The dimmers & switches are ultra-reliable, fast-acting, and seem to have some baked-in self-healing WiFi routines. Nice work software/firmware team! Even after power is cycled on multiple breakers, the switches continue to try to re-establish their WiFi connection. Over a few days, they all return to the "white circle", fully connected status. If you're impatient, you can press the right button below the main switch on each of these to power cycle the switch and re-initiate the WiFi connection process. Some of these dimmers I am running as no-load remotes to control multiple other bulbs and switches. Even in those applications, response time is almost instant. The command always goes through and usually with imperceptible delay. Okay, so I've had these installed for about 20 months now and I haven't been without issues. I had an overnight failure of ten, yes 10 of the dimmer switches right around the 18-month mark. They were on separate circuits and kind of all over the house, some were right next to another dimmer that did not fail in the same junction box with the same hot/neutral/ground lines attached. While it looks a little like a failed firmware update, I just don't know for sure. There was no storm or electrical activity that night and nothing else in my electronics-heavy home was damaged. Anyway, TP Link honored the 2-year warranty. Yes, I had to jump through a few hoops, mostly answering honestly too many questions and return shipping is on the buyer to get replacements. It also took about a month, which is too long TP Link! But I did it all through the proper channels and TP Link did replace the failed switches with brand-new units. Overall, this is a really solid product from a reliable company. I do think at a budget price-point, this is the best choice for Matter-over-WiFi for North American smart home users. Would Matter-over-Thread be better? Almost certainly! It's just not available yet. (Hint, hint TP Link.)

Backbone of my smart home lighting – 50+ device Tapo system
TP-Link Tapo Matter Smart Dimmer Switch – Voice Control with Siri, Alexa & Google Assistant This is the primary dimmer switch running in my smart home lighting system. I currently have more than 50 TP-Link Tapo devices installed throughout my house, including switches, dimmers, outlets, and plugs. These dimmer switches are a core part of that setup and control many of the lighting routines across the home. The dimming performance has been excellent. They handle LED bulbs very well with smooth dimming and no flicker, which is something I’ve run into with other dimmers in the past. One of the big advantages is Matter support. Since these switches can operate locally, they respond quickly and continue functioning even if the internet connection is down. Reliability has also been very good. After more than a year of use, I’ve only had one switch that needed a full reboot and reset, which is impressive considering the number of devices running in the system. The Tapo ecosystem has been easy to manage as well. I run several other Tapo switches and outlets throughout the house, and they integrate seamlessly together. The system also works well alongside TP-Link Kasa devices, and everything can be managed through the same app. While I do use Alexa for voice control, I actually prefer using the routines within the native Tapo app. The automation options there are a bit more flexible and work very reliably. Overall these have been very stable and have become the backbone of my smart lighting system.

Looks OK, a little annoying to install, good price
I got this to replace my Feit Electric dimmer (the "DIM/WIFI" model). The Feit was better looking, and easier to install, but uses the Tuya app (basically suspected Chinese spyware which isn't always compatible with different smart services) and wasn't Matter-certified. I wanted Matter for better future-proofing. The Feit also did this annoying thing where it was lit up on the panel when off, a sort of standby mode, which wasn't great if you wanted proper darkness. The devices are priced similarly. The TP-Link (Tapo) dimmer here isn't quite as attractive as the Feit. It uses a weird UI where it looks like an always-on rocker that uses the “down” button for both on and off, has dimming buttons that go horizontal instead of vertical, and has a loud and cheap sound when pressed. This has been true of old TP-Link Kasa products, too. At least it doesn't have branding on it, same as the Feit. Both have a removable, proprietary faceplate that looks fine and snaps on and off. I’m glad that the switch itself doesn’t light up in the dark, as with the Feit (the Tapo has an ever-so-faint WiFi signal circle that isn’t intrusive). Installing it was also worse than the Feit. The Feit has holes for wires to enter and lock down with screws. This TP-Link has jiggly, finicky little plates that the wires go under, and because the screws can come all the way out, the plates can, too, so you need to pay close attention. The Feit has holes for every wire needed, including extras, while the TP-Link requires (provided) wire nuts for both the Neutral and Ground. Both come with labels, and while the TP-Link labels are clearer they are also much larger and don't stick well. The Feit has two screw options for attaching to the wall box, whether it’s small or large (I don’t know the standard measurements) and both are metal. The TP-Link has metal if you have a larger box, but plastic for smaller boxes. The smaller option does come with the option to adjust the screw side-to-side (the larger does not), which is useful if your box is not level. However, you need to be careful not to screw it in too hard, as the plastic is very soft and you can screw right through it. I think you could solve this with a couple of cheap metal washers, but it's definitely a design flaw. It's especially problematic if you're relying on the screws to keep the device flush with the wall, which is typical of these devices because they take up much more space than non-smart dimmers and it gets crowded with the cables, necessitating pressure from the screws. My Google Home recognized the device right away (which was actually kind of annoying because I wanted to set up using Smartthings and the popup was intrusive). I was able to add it via Matter-over-WiFi and my Smartthings V2 hub, and it shows up in my linked Google Home. However, I did have to unlink Smartthings from Google Home, and then reauthorize it (“reconnect” alone did not work). This is a Matter problem, not really a TP-Link or Tapo problem. I had the same issue with my Tapo Matter smart outlet. Hopefully Matter fixes this in the future. Because this is Matter-over-WiFi, a Thread border hub isn't needed, but I use a hub for tons of other things anyway. This is not a Thread device, so it won't build out any Thread network, but it will still work with Matter if you're OK putting it directly on the WiFi. So far, it's working as it should. The switch works normally, and I haven't had disconnects. I did have disconnects with the Tapo Matter smart outlet, and those were solved by downloading the Tapo app and upgrading the device firmware, so I did the same preemptively for this dimmer. It's annoying that you have to download the Tapo app to get full functionality, but it's basically standard fare for smart devices at the moment, at least until Matter gets its act together. I just download the proprietary apps, get what I need from them, and delete them, preferring my Smartthings setup for smartphone control, and my Google Home for voice control. This is a decent dimmer for the price, if you can live with how it looks and installs and the quirks of Matter in Dec 2023. If ever a Matter-over-Thread dimmer is released, and looks at all half-way decent, I’ll probably move to that. For now, this works and gets the Chinese spyware out of my house.

Easy Installation, Accurate Calibration, and Thoughtful Design
I’ve installed multiple smart switches, and this TP-Link Tapo Matter Smart Dimmer was one of the easiest. Before shutting off the breaker, I removed the wall plate and used a multimeter to identify line and load. After cutting power, I labeled the wires using the included stickers, removed the old switch, and disconnected the pigtail ground from the existing ground bundle. The Tapo dimmer uses a long ground wire instead of a ground screw, which made installation straightforward. Everything fit back into the box cleanly. Setup in the Tapo app was quick and intuitive. Tap the plus icon, add a new device, and follow the prompts. One important tip: don’t skip calibration. I did initially, and the dimming levels weren’t correct. Running calibration afterward fixed it immediately and made the dimming smooth and accurate. You can also set custom brightness percentages if you want precise control. Build quality feels solid, and the design is clean. A standout feature is the subtle glowing ring when the light is off—it’s surprisingly useful in a dark room. If you don’t like it, the ring can be disabled in the device settings. The only downside is cosmetic: if you’re replacing a switch that uses a double faceplate, you’ll need to reuse your existing plate or buy a matching double to avoid mismatched covers. Bottom line: easy installation, reliable performance, and thoughtful features. Highly recommended.

TP-Link Quality Switch
I had started on my smart home journey many years ago and had initially used Belkin Wemo switches for my light fixtures. The Wemos never worked well, and I had switched them all out a number of years ago, replacing them with TP-Link Kasa switches, which have been trouble free and worked great with both Alexa and the Kasa app. I have 5 Kasa dimmer smart switches and I recently decided to add another one. In my search on Amazon I did find the Kasa switch but also saw that there was a newer model, which is this Tapo model. It looks to be the same as my Kasa switch, but also supported Matter. The Tapo switch looks and installs just like the older Kasa model. With installation, it's straight forward, but key is having the neutral wiring as not all homes have them. You will also need to be a distinguish between the line and load wires (not important in older switches), so having a non-contact voltage tester would be helpful. The hardest part of the installation is tucking away the wires to get the switch to fit inside the wall box. The snap on cover plate gives the switch a nice clean look. With the switch installed, the next step is adding it to the app. It does not work with the old Kasa app, but the good news for me was that the Tapo app will work with my older Kasa smart devices. I downloaded the Tapo app and signed in with my TP-Link account, and it immediately populated all of my Kasa devices. Adding this switch was easy, just clicking on the "+" button and selecting the product. It found it right away and only took a few minutes. I have always liked the Kasa app and the Tapo app looks to be even better, as it's intuitive, though I will need some time to try out the features. On my Alexa, I did unlink my Kasa skill and then linked the Tapo skill, though not sure if I really had to do that. Alexa found the Tapo switch right away and works as expected in controlling it. As Tapo supports Matter, I did also add it to Apple Home Kit. None of my older switches support Home Kit, so this is the only smart switch on Home Kit. To add to Home Kit, it just requires the QR code from the device, which I did not find in or on the box, so I initially thought it's probably on the back of the switch, which didn't make much sense to me. However, in looking at the device in the Tapo app, there was an option to show the QR code, so problem solved. Adding to Home Kit was also quick and easy once I had the QR code. I have over 2 dozen TP-Link smart devices in my home setup. All of them are in the Kasa line except for this new Tapo switch. I can attest to the quality of their devices and am happy that TP-Link is continuing to bring new functionality to their line.

REQUIRES NEUTRAL - AND THESE DON'T WORK WITH SMART BULBS
It's easy to miss but this smart switch requires neutral. Remember that the presence of a white wire in the switch box does not necessarily mean you have a neutral to work with. In many cases, especially old houses, a white wire might be installed as a switched-hot (or anything else really, depending who installed it). If a white wire in your switch box is attached to a dumb switch, then that is NOT a neutral wire, and if there's no other neutral wire in the box, you cannot use this product. I'm giving it 5-stars because it does work well when neutral is available. Remember also that these don't work with smart bulbs, which cannot be dimmed by wired dimmers, only through smart home software, either by apps or through controllers. So you need to make a choice - software-only smart bulbs with color options, or smart switches that let you dim dumb bulbs without control over hue. Eventually, maybe in 1-3 years, the world will have working dimmer controllers that can work with smart bulbs, but we're not there yet. Recent updates to platforms like Google Home haven't gone far enough. Recent products like IKEA Bilresa are too buggy and poorly supported for prime time. The right bowl of porridge is still 1-3 years away. For my husband and I, the best decision was to wait for the right product, rather than compromise. But if you have dumb bulbs AND a neutral wire, this product is a very good quality and affordable way to add a physical dimmer switch with smart home controls. If you don't have a neutral wire, there are some no-neutral devices that do what this one does, but their prices start around $50, which is a lot for a switch. Best of luck to you.

Great Switches and App compatability. Dimmers work great with my LED Bulbs
These are working great so far. I replaced some old WeMo dimmer switches that are no longer supported. They are easy to install and get setup with the Tapo App. I can control them with any smart home with Voice control. The dimmer can be calibrated for Low to high settings. They can also be set on a timer in the app. I have used them with Siri and Alexa devices. Will definitely purchase more for my home. Dimmers work great with my LED Bulbs

must have basic wiring knowledge to install it
Works as advertised, it is hard wired to the wall, you must have basic wiring knowledge to install it. Lever nuts will not work, you must connect the wires to the conductors (screws)

Perfect smart dimmer switch
So far so good! This product was extremely simple to install, and even easier to set up using the Tapo App. The dimmer buttons are very tactical and offer a solid click when pushed. The on/off button has a good spring-like action when pushed. The App also offers tons of automations and customizations. For example, between the hours or 11PM and 6AM, I limited the brightness to 25% so if I need to turn on the light in the middle of the night, I'm not blinded!
