Works great and is much faster than the previous drive in my laptop computer it had a disc drive. It was a simple upgrade for a fairly cheap price. My computer boots up really fast now and I have a ton more storage. This drive is also silent unlike the old disc drive

I got this drive after my main 128GB SSD started failing, had to get a budget option and my buddy recommended this brand to me. He's been buying from them for 4 years now (2 nvmes and a few ssds) and is very happy with them, like to boast their speeds in our discord. Decided to get this as a replacement. Shipping was quicker then expected, but Amazon has a thing for over-calculating shipping times, at least on my end. Went straight to installing it into my PC. Preforms great after nearly a month of using, already threw The Division 2, Apex Legends, Rust, and a few others on it. It runs perfectly. The first CrystalDiskMark (orange backround) was taken on 2020-Aug-14, after I got Windows 10 Pro installed/fully updated. Great reads, great writes. The second CrystalDiskMark (black backround) was taken as of writing this review on 2020-Sep-4. Nothing was running but a single Firefox tab where I am currently writing this review. Third CrystalDiskMark (white background) was taken before editing this review on 2023-Oct-9 Rebooting the PC yields a roughly 40 second boot time, from clicking restart to logging into Windows. Your experience may vary. Overall, I can highly recommend this drive, or any of Silicon Power's other drives for those who need a cheap yet reliable SSD. I was on a very tight budget when I got this and I am very satisfied with the results. Edit 2023-Oct-9: The drive is still going strong as my main drive. I accidentally ripped off the plastic L that the SATA data pins are supported by (thank you locking SATA cable connectors, very cool) but I just carefully shoved them back into the cable and secured it with a copious amount of electrical tape, and it's been working fine like that for around 2 years. I've uploaded a new CrystalDiskMark screenshot to compare with other results.

First of all, I have owned and operated a computer business for over 20 years, so I have seen the good and the bad, and, probably just like the rest of you, I read the reviews of items before I buy them. For me as a business owner, I have to be careful what we buy for and sell to our customers, and this drive was just such item we ordered for a customer that needed a new hard drive as theirs had crashed. I ordered it one day and it arrived the following day. Packaging was nothing special and was what was to be expected. Going from a traditional, mechanical drive to an SSD was already a given that it was going to be an improvement, but what we did not expect was just how much of an improvement it would have been for this system. Keep in mind, the system itself was nothing special, decent processor and 8GB of memory. We installed this drive fairly quickly, used a flash drive to install Windows 10 on the system and the installation was rather quick, which caused us a little hesitation at first thinking that something went wrong since most times installation takes considerably longer, but this was done in roughly 10 minutes, if not less? We let things run as they should and the installation was perfect, however, what truly impressed us was the boot time of the system from cold start to full on Windows ready, which was roughly 10 seconds! We thought that might be a fluke, so we shut it down and restarted it from cold start, and the results were the same. Now, as a comparison, we used a similar sized traditional hard drive and performed the same installation on the same computer so that there was no room for error or saying that system A has this processor and system B had this much more memory. Installation took roughly 24 minutes on the traditional drive and boot time was about a minute and a half before you could do anything without the little circle basically telling you to wait. Let me say this, I could care less what the reviews others may provide here are, perhaps they got a bad drive, which happens, or something else happened, I do not know, but, when we see install times cut down to less than half the time and a 10 second boot time, that is impressive, period. Will this drive be perfect for EVERY installation and provide the same results EVERY time? Of course not, conditions vary, experience and skill level of the installer will vary from person to person, and if there is one thing that we have come to realize over the years in this business is that people are far more willing to blame a device than their own user error because that is far easier to explain. If we are at fault and did something that would cause an issue, we own up to it, and yes, we know that devices can fail during installation or you get a bad batch or device, it happens. But, for some people, before blaming the device for a failure, consider looking at the conditions before blaming the device, as there might be a good chance that the failure was due to user error before device error. Would we recommend this drive to others? Absolutely. Will we continue to use and install these drives in other systems? Absolutely. Are these the "magic sauce" that is going to put your system over the top and make everything perfect? No, but these drives will do the job and make you happy you bought them!

This Silicon Power A55 256GB SSD is a solid budget SATA drive for basic use. I used it for a small system/appliance-style setup where I did not need a huge drive, just something faster and more reliable than an old hard drive. Installation was straightforward, and the drive was recognized normally. This is not a high-end workstation SSD, but for operating systems, lightweight servers, older desktops, mini PCs, or general boot-drive use, it is a good value. The 2.5" SATA format is also convenient because it works in a lot of older machines and small systems. For the price, I was satisfied with it.

I bought this Silicon Power solid state hard drive to use in an old HP TouchSmart 600 all-in-one that I bought back in 2011. The short story is that I was able to get it work. However, it was not a straightforward as will other brands. As I mentioned, I bought this computer in 2011. It had Windows 7 on it. In 2021, the hard drive was about to die, so I replaced it with a modern solid state hard drive (Samsung brand). Because the newer drives are smaller than the one that came with the computer, I used a 2.5" to 3.5" caddy to hold it. I installed Windows 10. I just followed the install wizard and everything went smoothly. Last week, the power went out and my computer wouldn't boot up. Everything (including the hard drive) passed the checks, but it was super, super slow. I tried to run restores from USB and DVD. They would kind of run, but so so slow, I was unable to troubleshoot. I also tried to install Windows again, but it failed each time. I decided to buy the same Samsung HDD thinking it would be cheaper now (3 years later) but it was actually $10 more. There was a suggestion for the Silicon Power brand (same size and everything) and it was half the price. I have 5 or 6 USB sticks from Silicon Power and I like them, so I bought this one instead. It was just as easy to install into the computer, but the Windows installation did not work. The wizard would not allow me to choose any partition. They were all GPT (and needed to be MBR). I googled and read about some fixes and then watched a couple videos. Basically I had to pull up the command prompt (shift F10) then enter disk partition mode (diskpart), list, then select the disk, clean it, and then convert to mbr. Once this was done, then I refreshed the wizard and it allowed me to choose a partition. And then Windows 10 installed without an issue. I did not have to do any of this when installing Windows 10 on the Samsung hard drive (same computer) three years ago. The issue for this Silicon Power hard drive is that it came as GPT (not MBR) and it was already partitioned (4 partitions). I don't know if this is how all of them come. Maybe this was a used hard drive, returned, and then resold (without reformatting it). I am not sure. But it seems odd that it would come with 4 partitions. The drive is working fine. I am typing this on that computer right now. So I would give the hard drive 5 stars, if not for the way it came (which required extra time to research and stuff). I believe that could be an issue for many people. note: I wrote this review a long time ago, but it appear I never clicked the submit button, so submitting it now.

i bought this ssd to make my laptop load things faster, and it did exactly what i bought it for, windows loads a lot faster, with other pleasant side effects like the battery lasting this tiny bit longer, and the laptop being this tiny bit quieter. its got good performance, not only windows loads faster, but games and other programs load faster than on hard drive. for the value of capacity to dollar, this is a good drive. using the ssd as a boot drive for windows 7, 476.94 gb is shown on the drive, not anywhere near the 512 gb on the amazon listing but it was a capacity upgrade from my old 500 gb hard drive, and most other ssds will have this effect too. overall, a great upgrade for any laptop with a spinny drive.

It's been 3 months since I installed this 4tb ssd into my brand new pc. It has failed. :( I shut down, unplugged everything, and unplugged all 4 ssd's. Plugged back in and everything turned back on, and voila! The drive is seen again! Yay! Tried playing a game from the drive, and the game crashes everytime. Alright, restart PC, drive is gone. Noooo. Okay, restart into bios, drive is not detected again. Ordered new sata cables, didn't work. Since it's the weekend silicon power won't help until Monday.😔 2 stars until something is done. Edit: started RMA replacement. Edit: Finally received the new SSD. Once I actually got it shipped out it only took a few days to receive. 👍 Being in California is a huge plus. Thanks! Hopefully lasts this time, Would buy again.

The SP 512GB SSD A55 has been a fantastic upgrade to my system! With 3D NAND technology and SLC cache performance boost, this SSD has significantly improved my computer's boot times and overall responsiveness. Silicon Power is a good SSD no matter what some of the other comments here say. Its not the same say as Samsung but its close enough in terms of quality and speed, the two most important factors when deciding on a SSD. Hey if you really wanted a Samsung then you should go out, pay the fancy price and buy it. Yes I agree that Samsung reliability would be 100% but this ain't too bad either. I already own a Samsung SSD drive and wanted something budget friendly this time. Their Velox series is more for people who are exploring SSD's for the first time. This model Ace A55 is budget friendly mid range SSD which is good for laptops. The best part is that it is smaller in thickness and hence really low on weight. But it may lead to heating in the future as the thicker ones usually have better chip design and cooling built into them. I will know this summer. If installing in a laptop it will make a difference even if you already have other SSD's installed like the M.2 PCIe Gen 3 and have replaced your laptop DVD writer also with an Samsung SSD drive like me. Coming to the speed, a user here has already written an important and very helpful comment, you need to align the SSD partitions and sectors correctly if you want it to perform especially when cloning your old HDD and Windows partitions to it. I suggest the same thing and recommend using Mini Tool Partition to align the partitions to 1MB by default. I didn't need to do all this as its not the primary SSD in my laptop and not going to be the last one either but yes for my primary SSD I did need to. Where this SSD really boosts up speed is on a Macbook. Trust me when I say this but booting up MacOS using a SSD is going to feel supersonic as compared to booting up a HP Pavillion Windows 10. But yes die hard Windows fans a SSD is going to improve your loading and waiting times immensely. Its damn irritating waiting for all the tray icons to load even if you have 16 GB of RAM. For the geeks out there plenty of tests are available to check out the speed of this SSD and I think Silicon Power does not do too poorly in most of them for a mid range SSD. You can also download their ToolBox to test your drives health from time to time. They even provide a licensed cloning software if you dont have Acronis or Mini Tool. As with all my reviews I must post a little caveat, most low to medium priced SSD's including this one require some amount of system RAM to function correctly. So if you buy a SSD like this one 512 GB then be prepared to sacrifice at least 1 GB of RAM to the SSD for its caching tasks etc. That can make a difference on an old 4 GB RAM system especially if you share RAM with the inbuilt Graphics card as well. Therefore first upgrade the RAM on your old PC or laptop and then buy a SSD especially if you intend to use it for high processing power work later and really breathe life into your old system. On older systems a SSD does make a difference but where it really shines would be on a system with adequate processing power and RAM. Also please note 512 GB does not mean it will effectively show up as 512 GB for use on a Windows laptop. Its the way to do with the way the file system reports the effective space on Microsoft based systems when formatted for Windows use. On a Mac it will show up correctly as 512 GB as they have changed their operating system to report the space/size correctly. But its there on both systems as the effective size provided by the manufacturer SP has not gone anywhere. All in all go for this SSD if you want to bump your old Desktop or laptop by a notch when working or gaming by spending a little. If you want to know specifics suggest you visit the manufacturers website and look for Ace A55 which is the model number for this SSD. Its the starting model in their Ace series. For those looking to buy something more pocket friendly I suggest getting this. I am not going to explain 3D NAND etc as it does not matter to most users here but lets just say this does the job in the price you paid.
