Become a negotiating master!
What a powerful and essential book for EVERY kind of negotiating situation you will ever encounter. An absolute must for dealing and working within the business world but it is also amazing at how many of these techniques you can implement in your personal life! You can be a monster negotiator and not be an overbearing jerk by creating win / win scenarios that everyone leaves the negotiating table smiling and looking forward to working together again soon.Chapter 10, Preparing to Negotiate, is priceless! After reading this chapter it became very obvious why I had failed in some of my past negotiations. It was clearly brought to my attention that I wasn't properly prepared and in some cases I had "lost" the negotiation even before I entered the room.A great read that is put together in very succinct chapters that can be absorbed easily in short or long doses. Definitely an indispensable tool that will give you just the edge you need to master the art of negotiating.

Easy to follow, practical advice for simple to advanced negotiations!
I had the opportunity to attend a seminar by Peter Stark. I love the way he presented material in an entertaining, but also extremely practical manner. I walked away with simple techniques that could make a difference in my every day and business life. This book is as good as a seminar and even better because I can pick it up whenever needed! It explored every conceivable way one might need to negotiate (aka persuade) with nuts and bolts tips to 'win'. I highly recommend!

How to handle dealing with situations
Good book not what I expected as it talks about all deals but very helpful short book.

Wish I had this so much earlier
This is one of those books I wish I'd read much earlier in my life.I'll never forget a negotiation that I nearly walked away from where the other party wasted vast amounts of time nickel-and-diming. When we finally settled on a fee, he claimed a "moral obligation to push you as low as you would go." You've certainly encountered these folks (along with the straight-up bullies that Stark and Flaherty discuss in Chapter 8).I appreciate both the attitude and approach of this book. Where some guides on negotiating take an approach that's really about you getting what you want regardless of the consequences, Stark and Flaherty approach negotiation from the perspective of helping you create mutually beneficial outcomes for you and your negotiating counterparts. (Even that work counterpart comes from a totally different attitude than 'opponent'.)There aren't many books that I think apply to everyone, without exception, but this is certainly one of them. We all negotiate and life can be better when we do it well. How good a negotiator are you? Find out with the in-book and online assessment, then start working on the areas where you have the most room to grow. For my money, I think chapter 2 alone is worth the price of the book and more. The awareness, for instance, that your counterpart has different needs and wants than you do and that you may not know these is so vital and so overlooked - and yet when truly embraced will drive the behaviors that help you succeed.Kudos to Stark and Flaherty for a fantastic resource.Happy Reading,David Dye, author of Winning Well: A Manager's Guide to Getting Results---Without Losing Your Soul

NEGOTIATING JUST BECAME SIMPLER
Negotiating my way through life just became simpler after reading Peter and Jane's book. The 101 Tactics outlined in Part II applies the informative concepts discussed in Part I in an easy to read format complete with helpful examples. Preparation is the key to success and this book has plenty of nuggets that will help prepare me to negotiate better win-win outcomes at home and at work in the future. If your goal is to establish a reputation as a fair, friendly, but firm negotiator that people trust...then read this book! I just ordered copies to share at my fire stations.

Correct title.
A methodical evaluation of every negotiating approach under the sun stating both sides of the negotiation, depending on which side you find yourself, and how to handle yourself and what stance to take. As so many approaches are considered, each one is just adequately covered to guide the negotiator in the right direction. This book is crammed full of valuable information for giving confidence when negotiating. I have several books on negotiation but certainly don't need another after buying this one.
