Buster Food Cube, Purple

Not as good as the original buster cube
When I first saw the image of this buster cube I thought it looked like an improvement. They have added little flanges to the core to make it easier to remove the core for cleaning...at least that's what I assumed they are for. I've used these cubes for my dogs for years and the previous version didn't have these. They were almost impossible to get the cores out for cleaning so basically, I didn't bother. The new cube with it's flanges is no better although you do now at least have little markers on it to show you how far and in which direction to turn it but getting it to the point at which it clicks into the open position is beyond me. worse, the flanges go all the way to the bottom of the core creating an obstruction which makes it twice as hard to fill as the kibble gets stuck. I still have an old buster cube which I much prefer but as I have two dogs I need both.Apart from my gripes, they are still a brilliant way to feed your pets.

Fantastic.
This is absolutely perfect for keeping the kids occupied whilst you have an extra hour in bed. Takes them ages to get their breakfast out of it. It is a bit messy as the milk goes everywhere if they are having coco pops. A little concerned as it does make them late for school, but am hoping they get quicker at solving the puzzle. Only 4 stars given as little Amy cried for a pink one!

Great to keep dogs occupied
Bought for my German shepherd, she loves this and has ker kibble from it. A great way to "ditch the bowl" if you need or want to occupy a pup. Be warned though with dry kibble in it it can be quite loud on laminate floor, though absolutely hilarious to see the dog nose it round to get the kibble out.

Feeding toy for dog
So far, pup has only used it once and struggled. As it's a cube, it doesn't roll as easily and my pup is used to a feed ball. I'm sure she'll crack it with time though. It's a bit of a faff to fill as you have to shake the food in (put some in, shake, put more, shake) but does hold a good amount (her whole meal fits inside). The middle tube is tough to get out - I felt I was going to break it to remove it but as long as you twist the unlock symbol to the unlock symbol (one on middle, one on outer), the tube removes easily. With time and pratice, this could be a great feeder as it's more challenging due to the cube shape

Perfect experience for dogs, terrible experience for humans.
You'd think that with such a simple device the instructions would neither be important nor hard to get so wrong. The toy lets you control how difficult it is for your dog to get food out. You control the difficulty by simply rotating the inner cylinder clockwise or anti-clockwise.Sounds simple enough, but the instructions on the cube just say "min and max". Min and max what? Min/max Difficulty? Or min/max dispensing rate? The booklet that comes with it manages to extend to about 2 paragraphs of text and some diagrams without once clarifying the issue. In all the review videos I watched the reviewers clearly aren't sure either - some said one way, some said the other, some clearly had no idea. One said to rotate it "left", which was the most unhelpful for sure.Through some experimentation, I've come to the conclusion that turning it anti-clockwise makes it more difficult (i.e: lowers the dispensing rate). And BOY is this toy noisy. Even on carpet, it's impossible to watch a TV programme when the dog is playing. On a positive note, my Springer Spaniel loves it. She quickly figured out she needed to nose it from the top to turn it over and learned how to keep it away from under chairs and tables where it can get stuck. It's extended her meal time from about 2 minutes to about 15 minutes (often more as she'll leave it and come back much later), and she very much seems to enjoy the whole game, rather than being frustrated. So, perfect experience for dogs, terrible experience for humans.

A great toy but you may need to help your dog at first
I was looking for a more difficult treats/food toy for my lurcher who manages to crack even the 'difficult' toys from the local pet shop within seconds, and I'd heard good things about the buster cube. I didn't expect it to be quite so difficult though. With the inner piece in, it's REALLY hard to get anything out and my boy got a bit frustrated and confused when nothing came out after he'd rolled it around a few times. I ended up taking out the inner piece and encouraging him when he used his paw, and now, about a week later, he really likes it and bashes it about all over the place. I don't know whether I'll end up putting the inner piece back in as it really does make it difficult unless you have lots of very small treats, but it's good to have the option. It's also pretty noisy when it bangs around and he's always getting it stuck behind the sofa and needing us to get it out for him!

Great way to make meals interesting
My medium/large Samoyed pup loves this. Took him a little while to get used to it, but now it’s a key part of meal times! Don’t give up if they don’t understand it at first. We gave it to him when he was 3 months old.
