A sermon of faithful worship, told through the story of Joseph
Through the story of Joseph, Pastor Begg brings life to the Bible's instruction for a Christian life lived to the glory of God for His purposes. A true master, Pastor Begg relates this ancient biblical story to our time without watering down the word to fit modern convention. I found myself hi-lighting whole sections, only to finally surrender to the fact that most all of the book is exceptional. The focus of the book is the need for us to surrender our lives to God's purpose - to recognize that our talents and abilities are given to us to serve His purposes for His glory. As we see the adversity that Joseph faces, Pastor Begg establishes that we are guided by the "Hand of God," and should live in accordance with that fact.I plan to re-read it in its entirety again this year because the content is so rich that one reading just won't be enough.Truly a great read. His will be done. Amen.

Five stars without hesitation!
If you have never read or heard Alistair Begg, then get to it! This exposition of the chapters in Genesis which concern the life of Joseph is directly tied to Romans 8:28, and we truly see the Hand of God in every aspect of Joseph's life. Begg's work is solid and Biblical while being extremely readable. You will come away from this book with a deeper understanding of the ways God is at work in your own life.

Great Book!
I really like this book in that it is very encouraging to those who are going through the trials of life. The life of Joseph was not easy but Mr. Begg shows how Joseph maintained an eternal perspective and saw Gods hand throughout his life. Joseph's life is a very good example of Romans 8:28 in that God's works out everything for our good and to His glory. The book is easy to read and very encouraging too!

Textbook Mediation on Providence
Begg brilliantly in packs the story of Joseph while at the same time offering life changing lessons on God's dealings with His people. It is often in hindsight that we see the hand of God. Begg tells us convincing that God has not forsaken us and is working all things for our good.

Compelling book for understanding how God works in our lives...
Alistair Begg has delivered a masterpiece. The life of Joseph was filled with years and years when he was subjected to the most awful circumstances. Pastor Begg weaves the tale with a scriptual basis, to show how Joseph's life is an amazing example of how even in the darkest of times, God's plan is at work. Beautiful.

Old story, new insights!
Patience (defined here as someone determining to wait upon God's perfect timing) is a godly virtue. Pastor Begg reminds of the importance of genuine, biblical faith--it is not of our own doing, but is a gift of God given, established, and centered in Christ alone! Begg continuously sets forth Joseph as an example of Romans 8:28 "with skin on it." We so often misinterpret the verse to mean that God blesses us with ease and/or wealth. Joseph's life is a solemn and joyful reminder that life is not always easy, but can be painful, fraught with seeming injustice, and trying, and that God is always at hand and working without rest! Life (as the life of Joseph testifies), is sometimes a question of trust, humility, and faithful endurance. God is God; can I LIVE with that—no matter what comes to me?

Great Book and Helpful!
A great look at how God's hand was protecting Joseph throughout the miserable times of his live. What a wonderful reminder of how to keep that in out minds as we move through life. God is protecting us and has a plan even when things look grim. Another well written book by Alister Begg. I find once I finish reading one of his books I immediately start shopping for for the next. A great way to build a library :-)

Exposing a Real Role Model to Follow from Genesis
I've long been a fan of Alistair Begg and his clear, insightful teaching of the Bible and would recommend him to anyone searching for biblical advice and its practical relevance to our life today. This book is a great example of what he does best. He takes a story from Genesis and shows exactly how we can apply its lessons today. The story takes us from the time Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers to when he began working for the Egyptians. He was eventually promoted for his hard work and dedication and eventually become a high-ranking official. Throughout his time there, though, he dealt with temptation and turmoil in prison. His story beautifully illustrates how life is (and should expected to be) tough. We must all learn to lean on God completely no matter how bad things get. We will be delivered from our trials in some way. It may not be the exact way we would like or at the exact timing we would have preferred, but it will happen. The backdrop and theme for the book is Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Periodically, throughout the book, Begg shows how Joseph foreshadows Christ, from the way he treats his brothers to how he performs his duties. So, the book's strength lies not only in Begg's ability to use the main Old Testament text, but to show how Joseph, in many critical ways, is a picture of Christ, who's really the best role model of all time.

A wonderful exposition. The title says it all.
This book is a wonderful exposition of the story of Joseph. Painstakingly and with huumour the writer unpacks the narrative to convince the reader that in the final event God is in control. Very well written and well sprinkled with relevant passages from the Bible. A must read and a book that is difficult to put down.
