4.5 star rating. The 'bird' tables have turned.
£40 for a plastic bird feeder! I think beer played a part. Arrived as planned and in good order. My opinions for what they're worth. Well designed and constructed from robust materials. Tick. I filled one side with crushed up mealworm and the other with mixed seeds. Hung the feeder in much the same place the old one used to be. My viewing place is my chair where I see it all going on including red kytes with their 5 – 6 ft wingspan soaring high. They'll not trouble my bird feeders. Now my reason for buying this feeder was the fact the 'gang' of sparrows were dominating the old feeder so the other birds didn't stand a chance. They also showered the mealworm all over the place and a fat visiting rat needed a diet. I was also spending a stupid amount of ££ on mealworm.Within half hour the small birds were checking things out and it was game on. I soon had two robins and several blue-tits tucking in. Mealworm has to be crunched up a bit to flow through the outlet. Sparrows were now the ones with their beaks pushed out of joint. So, Gary. Why have you knocked off half a star? It's the 'no food on the ground' part of the claims. Almost. Some blue tits take the food then stand on the edge of the feeder facing outwards with it and inevitably some is dropped to the ground. Feeding rats again? Well, actually, the ousted sparrows were scrambling around on the ground picking up the scraps from above.I will be saving money from less spillage as the seller suggests which justifies the horrendous cost. As I glance up, the robin and a blue tit are feeding together. Happy days.More on mealworm. Crunching them up didn't work too well. That just bunged things up. Today I'm trying whole mealworm instead of crushed up on one side and seeds on the other. I also noted the collection chamber had worked well with a fair amount in it and and that would have fed ratty had it fell on the ground.Whole mealworm didn't drop through so well, so I devised a cunning plan. I modified two of the four outlets on one side. About a quarter of an inch of the plastic removed, leaving the other outlet side for seed. This works really well and as I write this the sparrow gang are raiding all around it. Very few blockages now. And yes, the clever collection tray works well, but the birds have terrible table manners and through the food around like there's no tomorrow. I'd say about a fifth ends up on the ground which is still better than other feeders. I stand by my 4 . 5 stars.

Not grey squirrel (a rodent) proof
Well made with some good features. Problem though with grey squirrels. Grey squirrels are rodents which will love to feed from this. I suspended my feeder from a 2m pole, but this feeder hangs down from its wires quite a bit, and it gets up and across with ease. It was climbing the pole for fun with the feeder taken off ! I found an eventual solution which involved sunflower oil lubrication, a battle of wills (mano a squirrelo), and some swearing along the way. So some grey squirrel bars on this feeder please. Scatter can be reduced a bit by crushing peanuts and using sunflower hearts etc ie food they just scoff down. Hang near a bush / tree if your squirrel cant do a standing 2m leap. Small birds like the safety. Otherwise thanks for a great feeder.

Don't waste your money!
At first it was great and the small birds came and fed happily. The pigeons that were sat on the shed look on and tried to land on it to eat the seeds but couldn't. I say couldn't because after a day they had worked out they could land inside and under the roof and eat all the seed. If you want a bird feeder that only feeds smaller birds then I'd not buy this expensive piece of plastic.I am now in the process of making the roof bigger so it does stop bigger birds being able to land and get under.

Waste of money
I have this since mid April, its now the beginning of May and no birds have visited it. I'm not sure if it's in the wrong position, but we have had bird feeders before with brilliant success, but the birds don't seem to like this.I thought it might be because it wasn't high enough so I placed it higher in our tree, but still no birds have used it. I'm a bit disappointed as this was really expensive compared to other bird feeders.

Bird feeder
Happy the birds are using it and it's easy to refill

Squirrel deterrent
Good for keeping the squirrels off and the seed doesn’t get thrown onto the floor, so avoiding rodents.

Does not deter rodents
Doesn't deter rodents. The feeder itself was sturdy enough, and the smaller birds took to it, but it wasn't long before the squirrels found a way in and were dropping seeds on the lawn, which in turn encouraged a rat. Disappointed, because I want to feed the birds, and I don't mind the squirrels being fed either , but definitely no to the rats.
