Is this machine just for stretch fabrics or can you use on fabrics such as cottons?

Hi, Coverstitch is used on stretch fabric, including lycra for swimwear or dancewear. there is no reason that it cannot be used on cotton, linen etc. I wouldn't o use it on leather or leatherette type fabrics.

Wife wants a coverstitch machine (she already has an overlocker) - is this effectively a coverstitch and overlocker one? should i get cv3440 instead?

This is only a coverstitch it does not cut and finish seams like an over locker it does 3 -5 thread variations of coverstitch, think of the flat seams on a pair of cycling shorts or twin tie I’d stitched on a hem with overlock type stitch on the back. If she already has an over locker then the coverstitch machine is a wonderful addition. It takes a bit of getting to used to but I love it and use it for a huge variety of finishes. The overlocker constructs, the coverstitch finishes.

Im trying to decide between this machine and a Janome coverpro 2000. Those of you that have this machine...any difficulties or regrets?

Simply no , love it, especially the dvd you get with it.

learning curve to use but worth it!

Great machine, there is a big learning curve but there is a lot of information on the internet and youtube to help trouble shooting. but it looks so good on clothes when you do get the hang of it.probably not a machine for a novice sewer and maybe not for someone who hasn't mastered an over locker first but I love it

I have never yet been disappointed by a Brother sewing machine (or their customer service) and I was not disappointed by this one, although I haven't tried out every stitch. There is a YouTube video I found helpful in learning to thread it.

doesn't seem to be working

im really unsure if my machine works or not. as ive used many domestic and industrial machines. this one arrived today, ive set it up, gone to sew, I can hear the motor going but the machine isn't sewing. no budge or movement in the needles or even like its trying to go but somethings wrong. just motor spinning and nothing else. ive watched every tutorial, read every instruction incase ive done something wrong. but its threaded right, foots down, everything seems right, put foot on pedal, nothing :( is there anything I could have missed? with most machines ive owned or used even if threaded wrong the needles still try and do something... why im concerned, the machine itself, other than hearing motor go, seems to do nothing .
