Hub Cap

Not a great album. Not as good as Hub Tones.

Let's say you're looking to add a Freddie Hubbard album to your collection (and if you haven't already, you should). If you're considering this one; I'd say "stop right there," and click on over to "Open Sesame," Hubbard's first record as a leader for Blue Note. Not only will you get plenty of young Hubbard, as a bonus you'll be able to revel in the music of the incredible Tina Brooks who both plays up a storm and wrote two of the best songs on that album. The spotlight is brighter on Hubbard here on "Hub Cap," it's true, but his work on "Open Sesame" is just as impressive while he enjoys superior material and accompaniment on the earlier album.
