Strongly recommend this whetstone!!!
My husband is a chef and keeping his knifes sharp is a MUST. Since he have the Global and Shun knifes we where looking for whetstones of Japanese brands since that's what you think is simply the best for the pricy knifes. while looking I saw this Wheatstone by Culinary Obsession and read some of the reviews and did my research, and ended up clicking the item home. Two days later I recived it and open the package and started to put the stone right away into the water for the water soaking. I let it soak for 24h just to try it out how the quality of the stone would turn out. (I did that since some people who bought other brands for about the same price ended up with disappointment of poor stone that "falls apart"). My husband was sceptic of me trying to sharp his expensive knifes with a "cheap" stone. I was pretty amazed that the stone is as good as the pricy ones, even my husband was. And the stone was still hard while sharpening, didn't "fall apart". And his knifes are good as new now. Just learn the tequniq to sharp and give it time, be patience. Now the stone is going to dry for about a week before I'm going to put it away for next time, just like I read in the question forums. So I strongly recommend YOU to buy this stone since..... 1. It's awesome price. 2. Good as any other pricy stones. 3. #1000 and #6000 grit stone is all you need for your dull knifes. Be prepared to have fun sharpening :) I'm defiantly going to buy another whetstone from Culinary Obsession since I today know you can trust their product/company. Sounds like I'm making commercial for them XD but I just want you who looking for a stone just like I did to be satisfied with your purchase. Good luck And thank you Culinary Obsession for delivering a great whetstone.

Great product, awesome service and quality - Not the cheapest, but one of the BEST
Service: It was ordered on a Saturday and it was delivered 11am Sunday - that is why you should continue to align with Amazon fulfillment - unreal service I could not have gotten online anywhere else. Email communications and the instructional video were on point...great knowing that they care about my satisfaction - saying it means nothing, but "doing it" does...Culinary Obsession nailed it. And really, and issues? "Just reply to this email" - instead of making me go to another site, log in, etc." AWESOME...easy for me and that is what most companies miss. Product: Packaged well. Opened it up and was impressed with the quality of the materials based on the way they "looked." Watched the video, read the instructions. 4 DULL knives that literally had rounded edges - this stone NAILED it. Never knew how to sharpen properly before and even without using the alignment tool, I was able to get a sharp edge on my "made in China" stainless knives. Had 2 made in Japan stainless steel knives that were much thicker/harder and honestly, I probably could have used a 400 stone to start with, but I just used the 1000 for a longer time and then switched to the 6000. I got a sharp edge, not as sharp as the others, but I could have if I kept sharpening. That steel was hard as a brick, so I figure I would sharpen those knives fairly frequently and get them to the next level over time, versus spending a lot of time on them. They cut fine now, just not as perfect a sharpening as the other softer/thinner steel. Overall: VERY impressed with 24 hour delivery, even on a Sunday. My wife did not know I sharpened the knives (they have not been sharpened since we bought them in 2000), and took one cut while she was making dinner and looked confused. I asked her what was wrong and she looked at the knife and said, "did you sharpen this? It is cutting through this raw chicken skin with no effort and normally I have to fight it." Verdict - we were both VERY impressed! Thanks for a great product and service...wish I bought this, oh, about 16 years ago!

rubber frame and wood holding block make up a very nice sharpening system
The double side stone, rubber frame and wood holding block make up a very nice sharpening system. It is much easier to maintain a correct angle when you can focus on holding the knife only. Also the included blade holder works very well in helping to develop a feel for the correct sharpening angle. My only dis-appointment is that water from the sharpening process will make the cabinet surface slippery and the entire wood block will slide. I reduced the sliding by butting the block against my large chopping board. Maybe a little more "suction" from the lining on the bottom of the block. The process to sharpen takes a few minutes but is not difficult. The results are much better than what I get from my motorized 3 position sharpener. I am sure I will get better also as I use it more.

Use it properly and you'll feel like you wielding a lightsaber.
This whetstone is AMAZING and my first whetstone purchase. I expected a low quality starter whetstone due to the price but later learned that aluminum oxide whetstone is supposed to be a pretty good material with only natural important Japanese stone being better. So I suppose it's pretty good? I was so frustrated with my old knife that it couldn't even cut leek properly. It felt like using a chainsaw on wood and when I cut to the bottom, the last sheet of the leek wouldn't even cut! So I finally decided to purchase a whetstone after watching some Gordon Ramsey videos about how those V shaped knife sharpeners destroy the knife. Spent 5 minutes sharpening it on the 1k side then the 6k. The first time I did it I used too much pressure and actually cut a bit of the 6k side off. Bummed me out since I thought I might've messed the stone up. The blade wasn't even improved much when I tried a cutting test. The second time I had much more patience. Paid real close attention to the angle and patiently with light pressure sharpened each side on the 1k until I could feel this weird "hook" before I switch side. Then moved on to the 6k and this time light, even pressure across the blade and no chipping happened on the whetstone. The result? Oh my lord. You know that episode of Rick and Morty where Morty feels true level and moans in pleasure? That's how I felt. I did a cut test with a tomato and I didn't have to apply any pressure at all. I just pulled my knife back and gravity did the rest. The smoothness of the cut was unreal. I have NEVER used a knife this sharp because I had always used my parents' dull knives growing up. I just want to cut things now. Tomatoes, celery, apples, raw chicken? It's amazing. Absolutely amazing. It does take a bit of skill and I'm far from experienced but I have tasted fruit and I'm never going back to dull knives.

Good whetstone that comes with simple to follow instructions
This has sharpened my very, very basic set of kitchen knives that I got years ago for like $30 and have never sharpened or honed before. Those knives were nicked up, dull, and could not cut anything easily anymore. It was dangerous, but I didn't know any better. But recently I'd gotten more into cooking and stumbled upon the fact that even bad knives could be sharpened to cut pretty smoothly. Before I received the stone, I got an email from the seller with a PDF explaining step-by-step how to use the stone. NOTE: this is a sharpener, not a honer so it should not need be used often. I would recommend this honer: https://smile.amazon.com/Wรผsthof-Knife-Sharpening-Steel-Loop/dp/B00009WDT8/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1521256552&sr=8-3-fkmr0&keywords=wusthof+knife+honer Upon receiving this item, I watched the video they linked in PDF which is also attached on the side of the box. It seems pretty simple, but definitely does not feel natural when I first tried to do it. I'd recommend using a knife you don't care too much about in case you mess it up a little bit. I also used the angle assist tool that came with it only for the first two knives. After I felt like I had a good sense of the angle you need to sharpen at, I took off the assist tool and sharpening became much easier. All my knives now pass the test of cutting a tomato pretty smoothly. They pass the magazine paper cutting test but not perfectly. They will do just fine cutting now; a million times better than anything I've had before.
