Just Buy It
The SMALLRIG Rosette Magic Arm has quickly become one of those essential tools I grab almost every shoot. Itโs well-built, reliable enough to mount my cameras to, and incredibly versatile. Right out of the box, this feels like a quality piece of gear. The machining is well done and this thing is unmovable when tightened up. The 11-inch length is a perfect balance: long enough for creative positioning, short enough to stay compact on a camera or cage. The ball head gives smooth, precise adjustment, and the locking knobs are easy to tighten securely without over-torquing. I will admit, it took a little time to be able to use this arm efficiently, mostly because I'm a bit clumsy, but I would consider it best on market for price/quality. Iโve used this for mounting light panels, cameras and monitors and honestly, it works great for all of it. Itโs become something I grab reflexively because it solves so many on-set mounting needs without fuss. Setup is quick, and adjustments are smooth. Bottom Line Totally worth it.

An important piece of gear!
What an amazing magic arm. Easy to manipulate and fits on everything. Love the ARRI pins. Versatility and durability is all where it needs to be. We use this for hooking up tx/rx on the gimbal and camera rig. Super lightweight and strong!

I wish more things were built with this much thought.
I got this to attach my split keyboard mouse and iPad macro controller to my chair. It works great for what I need, but honestly I wanna talk about how well thought out this thing is. The whole thing is adjusted with one knob, which by itself is pretty cool, but they went through the process of adding knurling to the ball heads and meshing teeth at the handle so that the thing does not even think about moving once tightened. The arms themselves are solid, and instead of just being tubes, they put some design work in to make them stronger where they need to be to sturdily support whatever you're attaching. I use them to hold an apple magic track pad for my right hand, and an old heavy iPad I've converted to use as a macro pad on my left and it doesn't bounce or flex while I'm using either. They point where it connects at the end has spring-loaded pins that help to keep the item from backing out by spinning, and there's even a hole you can use with an allen key or other tool to apply decent torque when tightening them down. If had one of my cameras on the end of this, I'd feel no anxiety about it staying there. I am not being paid to say any of this. I didn't get anything free, or any promotional discounts. I don't know anyone at this company. I paid full price, and would do it again, though I have the feeling this thing will be doing its job for my lifetime, and possibly some other's. I subscribe to the buy once; cry once philosophy for things I use more than once, essentially buy a quality lasting item, and spend some extra money, so you don't have to buy it again. It's not really a bank breaker, either, so it was an easy choice. If you can't tell I recommend this.

Not a friction arm...
Super solid holding arm. Love the rosette on the main handle. You can be sure that your monitor or wireless transmitter/receiver won't be moving around on you. The ball mounts that are on either end have these milling lines in them, adding another point of locking when you crank down on the handle. Been saying it for years, SmallRig isn't the cheap Chinese alternative to Wooden Camera. It's on the same level of quality and I say that from years of experience and disappointment with Wooden Camera parts. I have yet to have a SmallRig piece that is solid aluminum fail on me on set. Don't sleep on SmallRig.

Excellent adjustable monitor mount
I needed a versatile Mount for my monitor on a cinema rig. I like to use wild angles so I need to see my monitor from anywhere! With this magic arm I can get my screen right where I need it no matter what. It has an unexpectedly solid build for its price point. Rock steady locking in any position. This is the best magic arm I have used so far. I can also use this with an EVF in the same spot. Feels like it was made by a high end manufacturer like Arri. Great value for the price. I hope this helps!

Best "cheap" magic arm I've used - not quite a Noga
So far this has been a super sturdy arm, far superior to many other magic arms I have encountered. They are not a noga cine arm, they have some limitations in the precision of where they can be fully tightened. I suspect this is due to a small number of teeth on the rosette mechanism. But still, very very solid - easy to unlock and relock. The arri standard locating pins retract and the rubber pads are decently adhered but I suspect will eventually be destroyed and fall off with removing and tightening. Huge value for the money, but still not the quality of a proper Noga cine arm.

A MUST for securely repositioning heavy field monitors and other equipment..
Definitely able to support and/or suspend 7" field monitors, especially ones using large or dual Sony batteries for remote power. Best for those wanting to be able to cover 'Run & Gun' environments and have their field monitors perfectly and securely positioned.

Go For It!
Great product. Just go for it.

Fantastic quality
Strong, very well made. I like the fact that it has teeth so avoids the slipping at the elbow if not tightened really hard. It is quite heavy though so I would be conscious of this depending where youโre attaching it.

Remarkable
Background / Why I was interested / How this stacks up to smaller arms: I have a variety of clamps and small adjustable "magic arms" (two ball heads on the ends of a single tighten-able body/shaft) since they're great for taking on any arbitrary placement task that comes up, but I wanted something larger and more capable. The ones I have are great, but need a lot of force to fully "lock in", particularly if they'll be under a significant load. The fact they operate only by friction is also limiting in the face of heavier loads, and I wanted ideally something that locks in with teeth when tightened down, as this does. Finally, the single 1/4" ends on my other arms are adequate only for lighter items and always pose a risk of unscrewing under load. Ideally, just as the teeth in the hinge take over the job of resisting movement from friction alone, the thread should simply hold the load *on*, axially, while *rotation* is taken care of elsewhere. Why this stands out to me (small stuff first): * The spring-loaded locating pins on the ends of this arm take care of the rotation problem perfectly, and neatly disappear if used on something that can't accept them for "backwards compatibility". * I also like the dial for screwing the 1/4" thread into the item, in contrast with how usually, an item (camera etc.) must be screwed onto the thread (though not that this was a stroke of genius - it's necessitated by the inclusion of the locating pins obviously). If finger-tight isn't enough, the included holes let you get as much leverage as you could possibly want by sticking something in there to really crank it down. * As mentioned, the teeth in the main hinge also make that lock in completely instead of just relying on friction. While the ball heads on the end still just use friction however, that really isn't an issue in practice as I'll mention later. * The styling of this item, while not really important to me, is very nice (subjectively of course), and unique among most offerings in this space that go for a simpler, boxier look and plain black aluminium. I like the simpler look fine, especially if the reduced machining complexity keeps costs down, but this was *attention-grabbing* regardless, and in person is very nice. It suits the overall impression of quality (that I'm getting to soon I promise) and reminds me this isn't like most of my other smallrig/neewer/etc. gear. The biggest stand-out factor: In addition to the overall impression of quality and attention to design, the thing that shocked me most is how powerful and effortless the main crank is at locking everything down. The main knob is in charge of the main toothed hinge and *also* the ball heads at the ends of the arms, somehow, which is very convenient. It's also definitely "geared down" more than the ones I'm used to (uses finer threads I assume), but that alone doesn't explain the experience. It truly feels impossibly good in use. By the time the teeth in the main hinge are fully meshed and the main knob has only just barely begun to suggest a hint of resistance, the ball heads at the end are already *firmly* secured. Of course, in practice, you'd give it another 1/6th of a turn or so - still well within the utterly effortless range - and completely immobilize them against even unreasonable force, but regardless, the force multiplication they've achieved that clamps it all in place with so little effort is, in a word, remarkable. Edit: An additional note on the anti-rotation pins There are at least 4 if not more official or de facto standards floating around out there, so these may or may not match your equipment. This uses the "SmallRig spec" (one could call it if so inclined, though it is not unique to them) - that is, the pins will line up with those of a 3/8" ARRI-style connector, but this uses a 1/4" thread, not 3/8". They are too wide to fit the newer ARRI 1/4" pin spacing. This is perhaps the best and most versatile option they could have gone with, so no complaints from me, but for anyone unfamiliar with the fact that there are many different standards that don't necessarily work with each other, it's important to know which one this uses.
