great for food producing plants!
This is a great medium for plants! i do a 50/50 mix of regular soil and this stuff. the water retention is amazing. super easy to “use” all you have to do is drop it in a bucket of water and come back 30 mins later to break it up. love it

It works
It works. It doesn’t expand as much as other coco peat I’ve purchased in the past. I’m not sure what that means about the quality but it still looks good.I only use small bits at a time for my indoor pots and it’s inconvenient have a big brick. It’s still doable nonetheless, I use a separated knife to slice the brick longways (or with the grain instead of against it).My only real complaint is that there is no instructions that come with it and when scouring the product description, all I found was to basically throw water on it and wait: “ Place the soil brick on a bucket or wheelbarrow that can hold water and has enough space for the expansion of the brick.Slowly pour water over the coco peat brick, allowing it to absorb the water without any runoff.Allow the brick to sit for about 30-40 minutes, giving it time to fully absorb the water and expand.Break apart the expanded brick with your hands until it becomes light and spongy, ready to be used as a growing medium”

Nice renewable peat
I haven't figured out a good way of breaking off chunks of this to hydrate yet as it's so dense but this is very good quality coco peat. It just feels luxurious. Clean and soft with just the right amount of fibrous-ness.

Needs a slightly higher pH and lower EC
This was one of the better coconut fibers that I tested from Amazon. It’s still not as clean and pH balanced as I want it to be. This tested at 1.3 EC, 5.5 pH, slowly running distilled water through it and collecting the initial drainage. I’d like to see EC that’s half that much and pH closer to 6.0, but it is better than five others I tested on Amazon.
