This product is amazing. I was skeptical at first but it absolutely works. I originally had my aunt buy it because she had spotted lantern flies. It works great for that. I decided to buy my own and try it on my maple tree because I've had zero success getting rid of my carpenter ants. First time I put the paper on the tree the paper was covered with carpenter ants. The paper was probably 75% full of ants. I couldn't believe it. I've put the paper on the tree four times now and have seen an extreme reduction in the number of ants. It's also catching flies and lots of other annoying pests. I would highly recommend this product.

After a month of using this, I can say it works very well for trapping lanternflies. My yard is wooded, but thus far this product has not trapped any bees or birds. If you are concerned about this, there are online videos with instructions for using window screen material to construct a simple barrier that will let crawling insects in while keeping flying creatures out. We change our tape bands once a day. If you are working on a tree with smooth dry bark, some packing tape to hold the end of the tape as you wrap it around will allow one person to wrap even large diameter trunks. For wet or textured bark, having a second person assist would be necessary for wide trunks. We won’t completely eradicate the lanternflies, but this is clearly reducing their numbers. I am extremely satisfied with this product.

Very, very sticky and difficult to work with. But if you get it around the tree, it works! Don't touch the adhesive, it's difficult to remove from your hands. I used chopsticks to handle the tape, if you work alone, use masking tape to secure one end of the tape to the tree. It already caught several latten flies and other bugs. BUT—— Another problem is even if you wrap this tape around the tree truck, a bird will get stuck and die ! I removed the tape entirely and tossed into the garbage after I found two dead birds.

I TOOK ONE STAR OFF BECAUSE IF YOUR TREE IS TOO LARGE AND YOU CANT REACH AROUND TO GRAB THE ROLL, THEN YOU NEED TWO PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS NOT A TWO SIDED ADHESIVE. I FOUND THAT TO BE A HUGE FLAW. IT IS ALSO THIN AND TEARS EASY, SO YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT THAT. I HAVE READ A REVIEW SAYING NOT TO USE THIS TAPE BECAUSE IT CATCHES BIRDS, ESPECIALLY WOODPECKERS SINCE THEY TEND TO LATCH ONTO TREE TRUNKS TO EAT BUGS. IF YOU LIVE IN AN AREA WITH WOODPECKERS, YOU SHOULD DO WHAT IS ADVERTISED ON SO MANY SITES AND GOVERNMENT AGENCY SITES…USE CHICKEN WIRE OR SCREENING OVER THE TAPE. MOST BIRDS GO FROM BRANCH TO BRANCH AND STAY OFF TREE TRUNKS, BUT IF YOU ARE CONCERNED FOR BIRDS, USE THE WIRING OVER THE TAPE. NOT USING THE TAPE ON AN INVASIVE INSECT THAT IS COSTING PENNSYLVANIA ALONE 500 JOBS A YEAR AND TONS OF MONEY BY KILLING OUR TREE AND WOOD MARKET IS WHAT IS IRRESPONSIBLE. THESE ARE DESTRUCTIVE AND INVASIVE BUGS THAT ARE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY AND THEY ARE QUICKLY INVADING THE ENTIRETY OF THE USA KILLING TREES, CROPS, FRUIT, ETC. IN THEIR WAKE WE ALL NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE SLF. ASIDE FROM WHAT I MENTIONED, I AM GETTING A TON OF SLF NYMPHS CAUGHT ON THIS TAPE!! I THINK THEY ARE SO DISGUSTING AND I HAVE JUST SEEN THE ADULT SIZE OF THEM STICK TO THE TAPE! I AM DELIGHTED TO KNOW THIS TAPE IS STRONG ENOUGH FOR THOSE AS WELL. THEREFORE, THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THIS PRODUCT IS PROVEN. I CAUGHT A FLASH SALE FOR FOUR ROLLS OF TAPE AT A LARGE DISCOUNT SO I REALLY GOT A GREAT VALUE FOR MY MONEY. BEFORE I USED THIS TAPE, I HAD CLEAR GORILLA TAPE AND USED IT ON MY TREES. IT ALSO DID A FABULOUS JOB AND WHEN I AM NEAR OUT OF THIS TAPE, I AM GOING TO DO A COST ANALYSIS BECAUSE I BELIEVE THE GORILLA TAPE WAS BETTER FOR THIS JOB. I ALSO TRIED THE BLACK GORILLA DUCT TAPE, BUT IT **DID NOT** WORK. I WOULD WATCH THE NYMPHS CRAWL ONTO IT AND THEN JUMP OFF. THIS TAPE IS EFFECTIVE, HAS NO SMELL, COST ME VERY LITTLE, IS DOING ITS JOB, AND I RECOMMEND IT FOR A TWO PERSON APPLICATION FOR LARGER TREE TRUNKS. ALL THE BEST TO EVERYONE TRYING TO GET THOSE LITTLE SUCKERS BEFORE THEY MORPH, AND EVEN WHEN THEY ARE LARGER!!! I RATE THIS PRODUCT OVERALL A 7 OUT OF 10.

Updating my review , after 2 days of being there it is starting to catch some nymphs . I still find some using the cover I put as a bridge , but some do walk through . I did see some touch the stickie and was able to remove itself to walk away so I feel like it should be stickier . It does help to catch some without any pesticides

Exceptionally sticky tape. Works very well. The insects tend to like trees with some sort of sugar in it SAP. Our biggest problems have been with our maples. The insects don’t really seem to bother the Sycamore‘s, the Oaks, or the red buds. For the maple trees, I wrap one band at about waist level and then another band at about high-level. This captures the ones that make it past the first one to the second Band nicely. I believe we made a dent in the population as the tape this year isn’t capturing nearly as many, which I would presume means that the population is lower because I don’t think the bugs got smarter

Works great, a lot less infestation than last year catching the babies first

I couldn't figure out why spotted lanternflies were still getting up my tree after I installed this tape, so I decided to watch one closely. I knocked one off the tree and waited for it to climb back up. When it reached a fresh section of tape, it placed only its front legs on the adhesive. They stuck briefly, but because its back legs were still on the bark, it was able to pull free without much trouble. It then circled the tree several times, repeatedly testing the tape with only its front legs and avoiding getting trapped. After a few hours, when smaller insects like gnats, ants and tiny flies became stuck to the tape, the lanternfly simply walked over them instead of contacting the adhesive directly. This product may work well for smaller insects, but in my experience it wasn't effective against spotted lanternflies. I used several pieces over the course of a week and didn't catch a single lanternfly, despite seeing plenty of them actively climbing the tree.

These work well … BUT I wouldn’t recommend them for outside unless you don’t mind killing wildlife . We had two geckos die on ours

Very messy to handle - leaves you with adhesive all over your hands. Even if you use gloves, it is impossible to get it to adhere to the plant and leave your fingers. After a long time, I eventually got it around the base of 10 trees. The next day half had fallen off. The design is wrong. You need to be able to secure it to the tree first and then remove a cover paper to expose the adhesive.
