Terrific value ebook.
I got this for my kindle but tempted to buy in paperback too. So far only typed in the first program and, like all basic games, it's decidedly average but the the journey is way more fun than the arrival and not too big a type in to get boring. Would like to think the kids might get some fun out of this too if I can persuade them. As advised by the author, using the 128k mode of my speccy makes it easier to type in, rather than all the specific buttons used on original speccys. A real blast of nostalgia.

10 PRINT "Danforth is skill "; 20 GO TO 10
Working my way through this book, very happy so far. I dabbled in ZX BASIC when I was little but never really got beyond choose-your-own-adventure type things. Now I'm mastering graphics and arrays - much better :-) What I like is that each program introduces a few new things, which you can generally apply to implementing the suggested extra features at the end of each section; it's nicely structured that way. I'm using an emulator for this, but plan to get the code into my real Spectrum for the full effect! Recommended.

Beware unless you like debugging code
Found a bug in the noughts and crosses code, if the game is a draw. Contacted author but no response after nearly four months. Beware unless you like debugging code.

Great fun for speccy fans!
I love this book! (Please read in an old man voice) It takes me back to typing in game code from magazines and books in the 1980s. All that's missing is the computer to crash before you have chance to save! (emulators are way more stable than the original machines, aren't they?!) Well written, well explained and great fun for any retro-head! (Is it still retro if you were there the first time? Or just .. old?)
